I will be headed to Florida soon, was wondering if I need to coat my Mean Street(infi blade) before headeing into the surf.I do have a tuf cloth , but may want something better. Any ideas?

If you want the knife to take salt water contact without any visible corrosion then this would be a problem for bare INFI. I have done salt water soaks and the effects are minimal, but there will be visible spotting and some light surface corrosion that will be easily cleaned off. Tuf-Cloth will protect it very well if the blade is not used, as will a simple oil. If you cut anything, any protectant will immediately burnised off, Tuf-Cloth included.

If your mean street has the black coating, especially the heavier krinkle coat, your INFI blade will be protected pretty well AS LONG AS you wash and coat it both before and after use in salt water.

At least that has been my experience with salt water and I typically use a modified INFI (a Basic 7).

Marc,

What do you find works the best for coating/protecting the blade when using it for diving in salt water? Thanks!
