I was wondering which of the better steels are the most resistant to rust. I've seen d2 and s30v rust pretty easily. Vg10 seems a little better. Not sure about 440c, ect.. -Thanks

Where are you that D2 and S30V rust easily? I've got a number of knives in both and EDC one of the new Benchmade 940's in S30V and I have seen no rust.

You can always go with a low carbon steel. As I understand it 420J2 is fairly rust resistant. Better go with a Spyderco Salt in H1.

440C is also a very rust resistant knife. What type of applications are you looking for?

Not of the high carbon stainless resist rust well in corrosive enviroments, D2 is way behind them though as most of its chromium is for carbide and not corrosion resistance. How it is hardened makes a huge difference, to get maximum corrosion resistance you want the austenization at the higher recommended temperature, a faster quench and a low temperature. 440C is recommended highly for that class of stainless for corrosion resistance.

My D2 Queen has never even seen a rust spot yet. I live in Missouri where the summers are hot & humid... no problem with even the slightest rust speck yet! I sweat like a Porker in the summer & my clothes are drenched in sweat & yet no problem with rust on my D2..!! Are you in a tropical region?

I live in Ohio. -Service / install hot tubs. I treat my knives like children most of the time. Feed them oil and give them sharpenings. And yet I my afck still develops rust (usually on the serrated portion). -Saw the beginnings of rust on a chinook 2, and it never even left the house. Neither of those two qualify as one of my work knives though. For work, I use a coated knife always. I was just wondering what steel is the best in rust resistance, yet still able to hold a good edge. I realize h1 is rust proof, but I doubt it holds an edge like some of the others. -Or does it?
Just had a thought- one day there will be a steel that never rusts, and, never goes dull. That will be nice. -hope I'm around to see it.
