Rust Spots

OK so I'm freaking out a little. I noticed a cluster of small rust spots on the sheepsfoot of my EDC - a Kissing Crane Stockman. I thought I took fairly good care of it: kept it sharp, cleaned it every other week with Flitz and every so often (not often enough I guess) with Tuf Cloth.
I have seen a product called a Rust Eraser - does this work and will it scratch up the mirror polished blades? ANy suggestions for future protection (as you see I live in humid Houston!!)
I hear so much about Renaissance Wax - is this practical for an EDC or do I just need to keep a Marine Tuf Cloth in my pocket at all times?
Of course when I got home I frantically dragged all my knives out to inspect them. I keep them in Sack Ups after a wipe with a Tuf Cloth. They were all fine so I am thinking it could be moisture from my pocket! Please help this knife is only 6 months old but special as it was in my pocket when my daughter was born!
One final question: I was reading a thread about protecting your knives. One guy suggested: soaking them overnight in mineral oil, wiping them off and applying Renaissance wax. Are there any materials that the mineral oil would 'react' with? Most of my slipjoints are bone handles, a few stags but I have one of the new Queen Cocobolos on the way.
Thanks for taking time to read and any advice is appreciated!

You could try Miracle Cloth from R&S Industries. I have read that it does a great job of removing rust spots. I don't know what effect this will have on your mirror polish, but you did say it was an EDC so maybe just going over it with Flitz afterwards would polish it up pretty well.

Doc: I doubt this is what you want to hear, but my advice is to relax. Carbon steel slip joints will get a little rust from time to time, and they'll get stained. That's the "price" we pay, it's part of the deal.

Thanks! Yeah I guess I need to chill a little :) It does give it a little character! I just was worried about it spreading!

Hi Dr. Van Nostrom,

Just let it sit with some Mineral oil on the rusty parts, and then scrape off the active rust. You'll be left with a few dark spot's, but that's just part of carbon steel's charm:):).

HTH:D:).

The Rust Eraser will definitely
dull a polished blade. They work
pretty well on a satin finish blade
however.
