I just bought the following sprays for aircraft rust treatments. I want to use them on my knives some of which are completely bare like cold steel's gurka kukri. I have lots of Chris Reeve's one pieces but I'd like to treat the edge of the blade which is the only part of his knives which are bare. THese are the sprays:
LPS procyon - a hardcoat which goes on as liquid
and displaces moisture before hardenning
1800 hours salt spray resistance and
multiple years of no maintenance
after spraying but no lubricating value.
LPS 3 - Strong greasy rust proof for long storage
CorrosionX aviation- thin film water displacing lube
ACF-50 by learchem - thin film water displacing lube
I was thinking of spraying my entire gurka kukri in procyon which hasn't come yet; I just orderred it in the mail from an aviation supply store. I imagine it hardens like paint. I was going to coat everything even the blade edge and just let the sharpenning process remove it when it comes time to resharpen.
Or I could mask off the edge and use a more removeable spray like acf-50 or corrosionx or lps3. What do you think?
Or maybe just do the whole thing in lps3 or acf-50 or corrosionx aviation.
I know there are many other rust proofing systems out there. I read a lot on the internet before choosing these. I chose these because these are used by the military and commercial outfits to prevent rust in aircraft and helicopters. I figure they know their stuff and that this stuff would be good.
