Nature's finally done it! It is only now really starting to rain here in Los Angeles, and my 20" sirupati is starting to get some rust on her. What can I do? Are there any products that I can pick up at the local Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Orchard Supply Hardware, etc. that will allow me to remove the rust while keeping that beautiful mirror polish that I love? If not, and I have to use something that will remove the mirror polish, what can I do to put one on my sirupati? Thanks for all the advice.

If you use your Kukri at all, it will get scratches, nicks and the odd mark on it that will cause it to lose some of it's luster. Don't worry! Unless it's a museum piece it's only a metter of time before it starts to show the mortal affects of non stainless steel.
To prevent further oxidation use WD40 liberally and don't wipe it down after you spray. Just put it back in the scabbard.

Chris, there are any number of products that will do the job. One I use a lot that is inexpensive and available almost everywhere is automotive chrome polish. It removes light rust, leaves a shine, and protects the finish.

Flitz polish, available at most gun stores, used with a soft cloth will remove surface rust and keep/restore the mirror shine. Tuf-Cloth, available from the BladeForums online store, will help avoid future rust outbreaks.

The marine tuff-cloth really works. Wipe it on and you are good to go for a while.

I use the "Rust Check" or "Kwown" a penetrating automotive underbody spray. It works great on my knives and car. The only problems are it needs regular application after use and it should not be eaten. I carry a sponge in a ziploc bag soaked with Rust Check so that I can apply it after my khukuri is used. As an added bonus the sheath is lubicated and draws are easier.

Marine Tuff cloth works great and the film last longer.
