Metal polish like Flitz or Simichrome works well.

Daxx did you use the Scotch-Brite™® brand pads?
If so I am very surprised they didnt remove any rust. I believe those are what's considered the coarsest.
I use the maroon ones for all my using knives to keep rust at bay and for general cleaning. I like the satin finish the maroon pads give.

You have to be very careful around the edge as the pads will dull one super quick.
You might try a search on this subject, as there has been quite a lot of info written about it as well.

I am also surprised that the scotch brite pad did not work. The abrasives used in the pad will scratch metal, and rust is softer than metal. I have kitchen "scouring pads" that look deceptively like green scotch bite pads.

If the rust is so bad that Scotch bite does not make a difference, it may be pitted. This is sort of like dark spots. You will have to sand and buff the blade if you want to restore its original shine.

Also, put rust prevention on the blade immediately after you take the rust off.

I find that for the average person that does not have access to large Baldor buffers like I do. Try a Dremel tool with the muslin buffs on it and a little rouge on the buffs. This works very well on small localized rust spots. Then you can lightly blend the buffing out over the whole blade. You can achieve a very nice finish this way, with some time and effort. If the rust is deep enough that that does not work , there are allot of different abrasive attachments for the dremel tool. Some very coarse some soft as angelhair. Warning: watch out when using any power tool not to get the blade hot to the touch. If it is too hot to keep your hand on comfortablly, cool it with water. Never want to ruin a good temper or hardening, as the case may be. Good luck to you!
