rust

I hate that stuff, I just use rough material, like sandpaper, then use rem oil and it cleans the blade up.

Lots of elbow grease

Surface rust is relatively easy to remove. A fine diamond or 600-2000 wet n dry (I use it dry) - you may even start to get a bit of a polish

Pitting can be a real PITA and if bad you may have to just live with it.

Stay away from sandpaper...use 000 or 0000 steel wool and honing oil. You want to remove rust, not good metal and sandpaper tends to remove both.

Sentry Solutions' Tufcloth is an excellent preventative measure to avoid future rust buildup on the metal components of your knives, guns, et cetera.

Either that, or you can carry knives exclusively from Spyderco's Salt series. :D
