I got a Leek about a week ago. Very happy with it. However, some light moisture somehow made little rust spots. Am I missing something important about folders? I'm guessing I need to be a lot more careful around water.

I had it clipped around the belt area and from a week, all I can think of is touching it after I wash my hands. But even then, I didn't touch the blade or open it with moist fingers. I'm pretty dissapointed now because there are several little spots and it ruins the look. Maybe I'll buy one of those more water resistant Spyderco knives to carry around when I'm on the boat.

Edit: on second thought, would sweat or oil residue create some rust on the blade whem clipped to my shorts?

Oil from the body would protect just like any other oil, but sweat (which often has a high sweat content) generally would. This is one reason why it's recommended to take guns out of holsters after wearing them.

the kershaw bead blast finish is prone to rust. Just wipe it down with some mineral oil after you use it and try to keep it from salt water.

this is so true. A lot of my rifles in stainless w/ bead blast finishes are very rust prone...more so than gloss bluing. Initially it was touted as having the benefit of holding more oil, but I have found that it holds more water (when in the field). For my rifles it needs a matte finish as does all in "the white guns" to eliminate the white shine .I'd like to be able to stonewash the BBLs. does anyone know where or how this is done? sorry not trying to hijack this thread:D

Probably aren't any methods as to remove it, but I will oil it from now on. I've been oiling my balisongs. It's a downer though
