Rusted lock bar insert

Hi everybody! I recently bought a ZT0450 new from one of the main online retailers and I've had it for about a month, (it's become one of my favorites). A few days ago I noticed rust creeping up from under the scale so I opened it up and found that the lock bar insert is rusted. The rust that had transferred to the blade came off pretty easily, but only about 60% of what you can see in the picture came off of the lock bar insert (of course I forgot to take another picture after the cleaning). What's still there has eaten into the metal a bit. Has anyone had this problem before with a nearly new knife? I assume ZT would send me a new insert but I couldn't for the life of me remove the current one, it's on there very tight.

Clean it off and use some mineral oil to keep it from rusting. Other oil will work but that's the cheapest. Doesn't need any heavy application. Just wipe it on.

You could also try edci which protects against rust and you just apply it and wipe it in and then off. This may be beneficial since it's not going to attract dust like oil does.

Looks like it's more dirt, dust than a bit of rust.

Thanks everybody, I'll give those things a try. :) I was pretty sure it was rust because of the corrosion and because I just couldn't clean it off but I could definitely be wrong. Thanks for your help!

Do you have any bar keepers friend? That may help remove it better.

115 It's just stain-less not corrosion proof....the problem is that in there you cannot clean it and lint plus moisture plus maybe food juice could develop acid that will starts the rusting and pitting process.
