I spent some of my recent "off the map time" at a cabin created and owned by my wife's family. While there, I found a few tools that needed reconditioned and this is the inevitable result of me with extra time on my hands and a good knife nearby...
First, we have the materials
A better shot, including the fire I prepared ahead of time
handle shortened and roughed out
cleaned up and kinda "scooped" the rough hole for the spatula's tang with my point
elegantly low-tech rig to keep the burns away
A heat or so into scorching the tang hole
A bad pic of the good handle to tang fit
All finished; cleaned up and fit snug
I think I really like fixing up old stuff as I catch myself doing it a lot, and now where there was 20 minutes and a broken spatula, there is a working spatula, and the satisfaction that can only come from a job half-done
