Rusty compact powerhammer

Just fiddling with some more ideas on power hammer designs, took some ideas from the new kinyon, the rusty and others and came up with the Rusty Compact :D Excuse my poor paint program modeling but I hope you get the gist of it. Just a thought for the past couple weeks, input appreciated. I'll probably not build it anytime soon, just thought someone might like it or get some ideas from it. Ram is tube in a tube and the "die" setup is similar to the japanese spring hammer with the crowned round face and flat lower die block (could easily work into it to have tire hammer die setup). Easy to scrounge up the bits for this, could get the straight length of spring with the eye in one end from a spring shop cheap, big section of tubing for the upright column. I didn't model it in but you add a couple doors in the tube column to access the turnbuckle and grease the pitman. Tire hammer clutch, could use a slack belt too. Any questions about the cruddy drawing.

OK, here is the cruddy "rendering" :( of what I would call the super compact rusty :) theoretically 1/2 the height and length of a typical "rusty" style hammer.

Utilizing the tire drive and all that like the compact. blue is tubing and solid steel, teal green is the pittman, red is the turnbuckle, green is the ram, purple is the spring leaf, gold is bronze or nylatron bearing surface/guide. The view on the right is a top down view.
 
I like it, Sam. Though I still really favour the Little Giant type Tire Hammer design...

Stop dreaming stuff up and make me a hammer, b!tc#!

Sam, I really like the basics of your design! May I offer some thoughts?

1. Add a shorter leaf spring under the existing spring, curved downward, and connect the operating rod to it: this will increase the effective length of the existing spring. This should provide more of a whip/snap action, increase your stock thickness working range, and reduce stress on the machine

2. Add some sort of roller mechanism to the ram/spring interface, preferably with some compliance either in the rollers or their mounts. The rollers will reduce friction/binding/wear, the compliance will reduce stress on the spring and ram.

OT, Sam I saw a guy on a blue scooter today in PJ .I wondered if that might be you but there was no anvil on the back so I guess not !!
