I see on the opening page that today would have been Rusty's Birthday.

I really miss those guys... :grumpy:

Hey Rusty,

We've been thinking and talking about you a bit. Hope things are going well for you. Some folks have been fortunate enough to acquire and cherish the blades that you cherished. They smile when they see them, bringing you to mind at a glance.

This is not a height joke, but it may be that your stature has grown since you left. We didn't know exactly what we had when you were here. Questions have been asked, about khuks and guns, and other things...the answers to which you would have had for us. I don't suppose you left some sort of compendium of appropriate answers for us to use, did you?

We've been on our best behaviors, I'll have you know. Politics, religion, world events, personal successes, and yes, personal setbacks, have been addressed in manners that reflect the courtesy, tolerance and respect standards which you so gently established with Bill.

There have been some silly threads that would have had you posting something about it "being time for your meds." The foolishness often had a zest that derived from the anticipation of your response to the various posts. Like teasing Dad, somehow.

Others will wish you a happy birthday. Some will suggest that they wish you were still here. For my part, you still are here....

And always will be.

Someday, we'll shoot the barrels out of a couple of .22s.

Fare well where ever you are faring, Friend.

Happy Birthday Brother...save me a piece of cake...I'll be there for it sooner or later.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Kismet again.

Happy Birthday, Rusty. A glass raised to a man that inspired me to carry a back up to a back up. God's best in a 5'4 package. Cheers and thanks for the wisedom and memories.

Jake

Little Bro, you're still in my address book and always will be in my heart.

What a shame. He would have been what? Only 55 years old today?

The more I look at it, and other knives that were for sale from Rusty's collection, I am convinced that he did the tapering work on the handle of his Sanu Hanshee I was able to get himself. It is very well done, so I just assumed it came that way from the kami, but I noticed in the pics Gin posted that many of the khuks had the same exact treatment. There was one long WWII in particular that I saw that had a very long tapered handle.

The funny thing is, as big as my hands are, the tapering that will fit a smaller hand still fits mine perfectly as well. Good professional work all around.

By the way, has anyone heard from his family lately? I assume the sale went off OK and most of his collection was sold successfully.

Who would have thought we would still be going after Uncle Bill _and_ Rusty passed so quickly? You would have thought the Cantina would just cease to exist after such a blow. A tribute to the people here and the moderators we have now.

Regards,

Norm

Most of the lessons they offered to us are of the type that don't go away with the teacher. They are incorporated in the student and become a part of their daily life. In this way, they live forever if we do our part and pass the lessons along to others.
