I bought a little bucket of Rutland Stovo stove mortar at the hardware store because I thought it was similar to the Rutland Furnace Cement that people like for differential hardening to make hamon. Somewhere i remember reading about black versus white cement from Rutland that people use and thought this beige Stovo was the white stuff but now I have my doubts.
I'm worried, has anybody used this stuff and did it actually work? I would guess that the extra thermal mass in addition to slower heat conductivity would make it work but not sure. It's rated to 2000°F so should stay on the blade?
