I know that Loveless lent his name to a few manufacturers, but are there any "pure" Loveless-made drop points floating around out there? If so, are they high priced? I saw the article in Combat Knives (by Ross Seyfreid I beleive) which leads me to believe that they are very hard to find, and expensive when you do.

I've seen them around. There was one at the Southeast Custom Knife Show in Winston-Salem a few months ago. I had no intention of buying it, so I didn't ask to handle it. Most of his hunters seem to have asking prices in the $3000 range. From what I've heard from several knowledgeable people, his recent knives are nowhere near the quality that his earlier pieces were.

Here's a link to a site that list several Loveless knives (along with many more desirable pieces IMHO):

thanks, Kelly. Once they get into the four-figure range they are out of my league. for now.........

You can get a Loveless knife from the $1000 range up. There was one on the forums auction
a while back that was a lower priced micarta handle that didn't even get a bid. Can't remeber the blade style but the seller would have taken $1200 or less is made an offer. I had inquired about it for a friend that was interested and doesn't have a computer.
They're not all $3000 but they're all 4 figures :-)

ptp,
Loveless knives are out there. I had one in my hands at a knife show last year, at J.W.Denton's table. It was a beautiful stag handle, dropped (Loveless's name) point hunter. It was marked $2,400, I could have bought it for $1800. Still a lot of money for me. The price on his work seems to be determined, when they were made, and I guess where, I'm not an expert. It seems like they can be found for less. If, you like the knife, but paying for the name is a problem, just about every custom maker seems to make a version of Loveless's designs. You can get a handmade in his style, from another maker in the $200 and up range, which is probably what I'll do.

Senator, thanks for that link, never been there before, lots of eye candy.

There are quite a few Loveless knives around. Mr. Loveless has been at it for quite a while you know. The Japanese collectors seem to have a real love for Bob Loveless, therefore a bunch of them have gone overseas. Loveless was even selling,in Japan, t-shirts, hats, bandanas, Zippos, shot glasses, and other stuff with his logo on it. I kind of think that the Japanese helped drive the prices up as high as they have gone. Not to imply that he is not a big name, but there are other big names that don't go for what Loveless does. I also do not mean that statement to be anti-Japanese in any way. Things are just quite a bit more expensive over there and makers command higher prices.

Them:"What's that clipped to your pocket, a beeper?"
Me:"Uuh....yeah, something like that."

bob occassionally does a show..and sells his standard hunter for around 750, small fighters for 1200 and up...if you buy from the source you will save some money. the ones that command the high prices are older rare types with unusual logos or unusual shapes. if you buy from a second party you will have to pay a premium.
