RW or CT? Help me decide.

I have painstakingly narrowed down my choice for my first rat to either a Ratweiler or a Camp Tramp. Originally I was convinced to go with the HR, but with the howling fats on the horizon, I decided to wait for that one. I've got several 5 inch blades already and my real area of need is for a larger blade.

So....Are their any performance or feel differences between the RW and CT? Buy spending the extra for a RW, is it primarily for looks (not that that's bad). I know I'll be served well with either, but for my first rat I may decide to go all out.

Thanks all.

That's the spirit!! Why buy one knife when you can buy two!! :D

The Howling Fat will certainly impress you.

As far as the RW and CT, there have been multiple threads and discussions as to which is preferred. In the end, each has its list of plusses.

The Camp Tramp is a fantastic knife that can do anything! It's an excellent chopping blade and the Res C handle absorbs the shock from any jarring baton blows. I would say that it has the most comfortable grip between the two, out of the box. Another advantage, I've found, is that the Res C grip is very subtle. If the sheeple see you wield your knife, they are not as easily scared because of its fairly unassuming nature. However, when they see it get used, their jaws drop in awe!

The Ratweiler is much heavier as a result of its handle style and the blade is slightly longer. Overall the knife is 0.5-1" longer, IIRC. This obviously has its advantages and disadvantages, but the added weight does increase its chopping power and the micarta handle will remain intact long after armageddon. This is a knife that strikes fear into the sheeple. If discretion is required in your area, you should be aware of this.

Other than these slight differences, you will not be disappointed with EITHER of these knives. They will both exceed your expectations as to what a knife is capable of, and the durability of these is matched only by Busse (or so I hear ;) ).

Good luck in making your decision. It's always hardest to choose between two right answers.

:D :D :D

If you get a Ratweiler keep in mind that some of us have taken to the micarta handle with a file/sand paper: it’s more comfortable for chopping once you’ve customized it to suit your hand.

I love the grip versatility of the Ratweiler, and am happy to feel a bit more shock through the handle than with the Res C handle on the CT.

As said above, you can’t go wrong with either, and the cool factor is hard to ignore.

Save yourself the worry and buy both   I really like my tramp for an all around camp knife it's just great but the RW is really nice too, like I said just get them both :D  :D
