Not quite finished yet (still no edge on it or sheath), I am making this one for Jens Anso. Blade steel is RWL34, which takes an incredible polish. 416 bolsters, and an ivory and gold handle.

Very nice looking knife Don and that finish is unreal. What did it take to get that shine?

I think I might have to order some of that, the next time I order Damasteel!! It sure shines better than D2!!

I hope Jens is wearing some sunglasses when he opens the package :)

Thanks, guys- hand rubbed to 800 grit, then about 5 minutes on the buffer with green chrome. I did touch up the plunge cuts with fine diamond paste on a felt bob with a Foredom handpiece.

Beautiful knife Don. I hear that RWL34 is a really nice steel. I can see it takes a great polish, but how is it to work with?

Thanks, Doug! Keith, it is comparable in workability to ATS34; it is, after all, basically the same steel, but made with a different process (powder metallurgy).

Wonderful looking knife Don.., that finish is a show stopper!!! Thanks for the nice picture!

Don, a lot of other makers are saying that you seem to go through more belts with this stuff than ATS34. That is why I was asking.

Is the finish on your blade a mirror polish or a satin polish? As much as I like the looks of a mirror polish, it seems to be very hard to keep up. Little scratches which hardly even show on other finishes can look really bad on a mirror polish.

Keith, the one shown above is certainly a mirror polish, although most of my knives are hand rubbed to 800 grit.

Hey Don...

Met you at wolf's show over the summer,,not sure if you remember me..

That nice is Beautiful,,nice job..

Just wondering if you did any Tactical type blades ??
If you don't,, the way you grind you should..:)

Don-

That is just flat gorgeous!!! :D

I'm like you, in that I prefer the hand-rubbed finish...but after all the stuff I keep hearing about a "pool of mercury" I'm really wanting to get some of this stuff on my buffer!

By the way, what type of Foredom do you have? I'm trying to figure out which one I want to get.

Beautiful work Don (as usual) !!!!! :) :) :)

Nick, my flex tool is actually a Grizzly knockoff of a foredom, with a chuck in the handpiece. I have had it for several years, and have no complaints.

Eric, the closest I get to tactical is my "Special Agent" in ATS34 & carbon fiber. You can see it at my website- www.cowlesknives.com
