Can anyone tell me anything about this awesome knife? Just saw a pic, and I'd like to learn more. Anybody know what type of steel? blade length? lock type? price/availability? Anybody own one of these? How do you like it?

I own a Model 7 and have handled some Model 1s. Steve generally uses ATS 34 as his blade steel. Normally a chisel grind. The frame is titanium with a very substantial liner lock (more like a frame lock). Scales are usually G10. The blades are typically 4-5 inches. They are expensive and not often available from Steve. We all hope that at some point he'll be making more. They are strong and mean knives.

I own a Ryan model 1. This is a massive fighting folder! You could carry this in your pocket but it is big and heavy. Search the archives for my post on the specs. Steve may be taking orders soon. The lock is a liner lock and cost about $450US. - Dick

Josh,

The Steve Ryan Biohazard Model 1 is my primary daily carry. Here's a link to a review that I did when I received it back in August. You'll find more photos here as well.

Steve's price for one of these is indeed $450 - $500, but Steve has a considerable wait, and he told me a few weekends ago at Blade West that he will NOT be accepting any more orders for the forseeable future due to having another baby on the way and the need for him to spend more time with his family.
So, the real world price on the secondary market for a Ryan Biohazard is pretty much twice Steve's catalog price. Sad but true.
Put the word out that you're looking for one and eventually you'll find one. They're absolutely worth the wait. :)

Thanks for the info, guys. Eric-- I think it was your pic that I saw in the "favorite knife" thread on the blade discussion forum. I was trying to think of ways to convince the wife that I need a $450+ knife-- twice that will take some doing:D. Maybe by the time Steve Ryan is taking orders I will have enough saved up. That is one wicked looking knife.
