My Ryan catalogue arrived today...I thought there might be a personal touch as I sprung over $10 for it (long story) but no

. Nevermind, I'm curious whether anyone has one of these biohazardous beasts and whether the build quality justifies the price, thanks

I got my catalog last week and plan on ordering up a couple. Just gotta figure out which ones.

E_WOK had a Warlock, perhaps he could help answer the question.

I have a Ryan Biohazard II that is a mind-blowing knife; it probably belonged to a Klingon in another life. The worksmanship is excellent and the knife is worth the price.

I also have some of Steve's work, and the attention to detail and craftsmanship is fantastic. The attention to design details is equally fanatical - he really thinks the design through and then keeps at it until its perfect before the knife goes out. If you buy one of his knives, the question will become "Why doesn't he charge more", not "is the price justified".

Of course, if you don't like anything he sends you, email me and I'll pay you over cost for it, no questions asked!

Thanks guys

I hadda ask, you can't tell much from the catalogue. Methinks Model 1

It appears that most of his designs are chisel ground. I don't know if all are.

Here is an interesting picture showing a left handed, right side ground Number One.

The picture is from "Yamash ita.org" (without the space). They have pages of Ryan knives (and other makers) pictured.

I've handled a Biohazard just once, but I loved it

.

One really cool point is his linerlocks...to start with, it's a very good linerlock but as a bonus, he used the grip shape to make sure your fingers canNOT do an accidental unlock.

He put some serious effort into that grip, in terms of ergonomics and safety. As a bonus, it effectively increases "blade reach" another inch over the rated blade length.

In other words, a Biohazard with a 4.5" blade will have a reach almost equal to a Sifu, on a slashing movement.

To those with the catalogs: what's his longest blade length on one of these funky-curve beasties? And how much?

Jim

Both the Number One and the Number Two have five inch blades. Overall length on both is 11 1/2". $425

He doesn't give a lot of detail on one folder called the "Dementor" that shows an overall length of 12". $500

Must've, the prices on the order form are higher than in the catalogue. BTW, he's still ignoring me

He responded back to me with the price of the catalog, then when I e-mailed him again, about ordering, he never replied. I tried calling, but only got a recording. Is the only way to order by mail? Just curious. I think that I'm going to order a model 7.

Hey BH -

IMHO, its a MUCH better use of the money than a folder from another maker we discussed previously.

E_Wok, those are the prices on the order sheet.

I have noticed that Steve is not a prompt message/email responder. Probably busy makin' knives.

Hey gents, what is the wait list like for a Ryan knife? I could get attached to a Dementor real quick...

Is this a dagger I see before me, the handle toward my hand? Come, let me clutch thee; I have thee not and yet I see thee still. Art thou fatal vision sensible to feeling as to sight? Or art thou but a dagger of the mind, a vision proceeding from the heat-opressed brain?

Prognosis...not good. I rang him about a model one...my name is at the end of a long list (he said 100 model 1s next year) and he's still holding down a day job

Then again, he may welcome a break from the daily grind ha ha

Well, being the MT auto nut like I am, very few other knives especially non-autos appeal to me anymore. But, I must say that I may have to have the Ryan model 1, 2 and 5 each in a different handle type design (zig zag, slotted, and skeletonized). These designs are sweet and well thought out. Anybody have the model 2 or 5?
