I was contacted a while back by fellow forum member and knife maker Ryan weeks. Ryan asked if I'd be interested in trying out one of his knives and giving him some feedback.....hell yeah how could I say no !!!

I'll be honest, it wasn't till the neck knife challenge that I knew about his knives. Why Ryan chose me is anyone's guess, I'm thinking he figured if a Bushbum like old Pitdog can make his knives work then anyone can !:D

Anyway one of Ryan's High Uinta knives arrived yesterday so I took it out today for a little hike.

The main entrance to my favourite park gets closed to traffic over the winter, no idea why, but someone told me about a another less well known entrance. Today I figured I'd give it a try.

Snicker was full of energy as usual~

This trail turned out to be nearly vertical, I figured a Fatwood walking stick might help !

After much huffing and puffing I reached the top~

Maisy looked deep in thought !

Anyway I know you want to see some knife pics so here ya go~

What first struck me about this knife is how awesome the handle is. I'm very picky when it comes to the handle of knives but this is as close to perfect as any I've used !

Took a pic of it next to my Army SAK to give an idea of the size. Pretty much a perfect size for general woods carry, small enough to carry all day yet still large and sturdy enough to get every job done~

With Snicker on lookout I decided to do a little fire practice~

First job was to batton some of my Fatwood walking stick~

Now for a little feathering to catch a spark~

The knife made nice thin curls that quickly took a spark. I used the back of the knife with my ferro rod~

Finally here is an in-hand shot ~

I'll continue testing this knife till I start my 6 month project at Christmas !

That's sweet!! See now that's along the lines of what I was thinking in the one knife one year train of thought. Not that I have a snowball's chance in a hot place of using only one knife for a solid year but i just got one in that I ordered with those thoughts in mind.

Maybe I missed it but what steel and what is the price point? Specs?

This one is what Ryan terms his ' Entry level ' one~" The blade will be 1080 and the handle will be Dymondwood ".

This is from his website, although the one he sent me looks to be 3/16" stock.~

This it the knife I carry with me 90% of the time. If you are looking for a great all around Hunting / Utility knife this is it. It performs well in the back country as well as the front country.... Base Price: $200.00 (*see Upgrade options below)

Steel: 1/8" 1080 High Carbon

OAL: 8"
Blade: 3.5"
Sheath: Ryan W. Leather

Good looking little knife. The in the hand shot makes it look real comfy to use.

That's a nice knife. If I could change anything I would drop the width of the scale gradually into the blade. I like to wipe the blade dry on my pants before I put it back in the sheath and I've noticed with fat handled customs that it's really hard to wipe near the scale with them being that thick. Like it otherwise though.

And that fatwood walking stick is awesome. :D

Great review as usuall Pit...love the view to; makes me miss home in the PNW.

Lucky you,but what do the girls think of it,2 paws up?:thumbup::)

Like Shotgun says, thinner at the ricaso & squared off instead of poking into the ricasco, that'll make it harder to wipe off with a quick swipe also.

Thanks for doing this Pit, I wasn't expecting a post here! Thanks for all the input so far, I do make the front end of the Scales taper more when requested. I like the knife to fill my hand when it is used frequently. Great photos as always Pit

What is this talk of using one knife for 6 months? Does that include fondling and cutting air?

Nice review 'Ol Bud ! Hope to see more of this knife in use. Ryan...that is a sweet looking knife ! Perfect EDC size.
