A while back there was a sale on two of CRKT's S-2 models(med. & sm.) at smokey mountain knife. It would seem many were sold to "us" the on line shopper/knifenut. I am interested in hearing of your experiences/opinions on the S-2, good, bad or indifferent.

I have a 7502 med./plain edge/ATS34 and a 7513 lrg./part. serr./ATS34(discontinued). The large I have had for 2yrs and I like it. It holds a nice edge and has a rock solid lock up. I do not like the Ti beltclip. Because of the size of the knife ,just under 5 inches, and the size of the clip, 1" wide belt clearance, the bottom of the knife sticks out slightly. This is not apparent when standing but when I crouch or go to sit down it sticks out more. The knife catches on things bending the clip.
The medium I've had for 1yr. The first one I sent back because the lockup was not nearly as secure as my large. Rod sent me out another the lockup is solid, it holds a great edge and is one of my EDC's.
But again the belt clip is lacking. I dont have a problem with the knife catching on things. Nor do I have trouble with the clip bending when stressed. The clip on the med. is steel, much better than Ti.

Both models have clips that when pushed onto a belt stay in the open postion. That is to say if when the knife is held in your hand the beltclip is in a closed or rest postion. Neither of these models will clip on any realistic size belt and be able to reach this closed/rest postion. There fore they both stick out more than they really should.
Other than that I love them.

Has anyone had to have a break in period?
Lets hear.

I love my 7503 S2. CRKT only made one run of 3100 large models. I probably shouldn't have used mine.

I have 3, 2 small, one medium. great knives for 25 bux!!!
I do however have a couple of beefs w/ them.

1)the clip sux(is there an echo in here?)

2)the smaller S-2's dont have a bolt running through the stop pin like the jumbo model, but rather are just barely held on each side by a very shallow cutout in the Ti slabs. Probably still very secure but still looks more susceptable to popping out of their recess under high torque situations.

3)On my medium S-2, the blade has zero closed position bias making it a bit dangerous to keep in the pocket. My small one stays shut pretty good though.

4)I think my biggest complaint is how when you grab the handle hard, the lockbar grinds on the blade tang vertically. It wouldn't have taken much to fix this problem IMHO. They could have made the lockbar rest in a nook on the tang so that there would have been no play vertically either.
I am awaiting the arrival of a Camillus EDC and will give it a good shakedown to see if they caught these things that CRKT overlooked.

I know it all sounded bad but I could make a longer list of the positive stuff! For one, it seems to be an absurdly robust knife and for 25 bones probably the best bang/buck ratio out there.

I have a small non-serrated S2 and so far like it a lot.

Don't use it too much mind you so can't comment on the performance of the blade. Nice design though and the lock up on mine is very good. Hate the clip. Love the Ti scales.

The clip design has to rank in the top 3 worst industrial designs of all time - utterly worthless.

I like the blade shape and the thiness of the overall package.

Unfortunately, the small was a bit too small for me to use as a one-hander.

I ended up buying a Small Sebenza, which is much better for my hands.

I have the small, great little knife. Cuts well, easy to sharpen and to keep it sharp. The clip is the worst. It rides in my pocket. Great knife for 25 dollars. josh

I have a 7512..4" closed, partially serrated. It has about the sharpest blade I have ever cut myself with. :) Opens and closes smooth..locks tight. I consider it an extremely good value for what it cost.

Got to agree the clip smackers, though...the clip on this S-2 leaves a lot to be desired. The clip on my Contrail is great..they should've used the same clip on the S-2.

Ordered mine ( med ) yesterday, for 25.00 seems to be a steal !! how can ya lose, ti scales, ats 34,framelock.;)

I got my large one on ebay with a second older model knife and and a Mo skeeter for $35.00.I like it a lot. I like the framelock. I like the feel in the hand. The clip is not great. Mine locks up solid and stays closed.

All in all one of the best values I've purchased.

I ordered an S-2 two days ago from southsummit, and it's already here! Talk about some fast shipping.

It's a bit smaller than I had expected, and at first I was somewhat disappointed, but I am beginning to see the value of a smallish knife such as the 7501.

I bought it to use a true pocket knife, for loaning out, and it should server that purpose very well indeed.

Overall, a helluva bargain for $24.95...

Glad to hear ya like it Mike. I did kind of the same thing when I first got my first little S-2, but that thing grows on you steadily and it's beginning to see the bottom of my pocket more than anything I have! Southsummit is awesome to deal with. I ordered a Camillus EDC about 2 weeks ago from another place and haven't seen hide-nor-hair yet:mad:

BTW Slicer, you got 3 knives for 35 bones??!!

Have the large S-2, this IS my daily white collar EDC (I specifically say White Collar EDC, as this knife is not too bad for not scaring the Upper Management Sheeple - Daily carry at least till the BM Park Ave comes in)

....Clip is useless - at least it comes off ;)

Very sharp, light, nice knife overall.

Paid $33

I considered getting one of the Small S-2s a few months ago to use as a small "office knife", but I decided against it. Maybe it's just me, but the blade on this design seems very small compared to the handle. Of course, this was back when they cost about 50 bucks. Now that they can be had for half that, I might reconsider.

Other than the smallish blade I have heard nothing negative about the S-2. I didn't notice anything special about the clip, but I have not actually carrie one. The ones I have handles were all smooth and solid, with the standard CRKT quality fit and finish. I didn't notice anything special about the clip, but I have not actually carried one. Can't argue with ATS-34 and Ti.

I love my small S-2 (the clip less so...:p )
I had the serrated blade BC coated. I think with all that (E-Bay) it came to about $35.
Great little knife for the money, it's one of the first pocket knives I reach for. Mine locks up solid, and since disassembling (for BC) and putting a tiny bit of graphite impregnated grease on the pivot and washers, smooth as silk.
