Now that is a wide open question... What exactly do you want it for? Victorinox (IMHO better then Wenger) makes quite a few midsize knives (BTW, what do you consider mid-size?) for several different purposes. Hunting, fishing, mechanical (cybertool), etc. What features do you want?

Ok: I carry a BM 690 as a daily gent's folder lately, or my REKAT Pioneer II as my all purpose EDC.

I would like something not too complicated, with only the basic amenities, and in red or black, maybe even in that new silver/aluminum.

NO FANCY THREE INCH THICK GUYS!!!

thanks,

steve

The Soldier is by far and away the toughest of the lot. Best looking, too, IMHO.

It's not the pace of life that concerns me, It's the sudden stop at the end.

I'll also vote for the soldier. I got one after reading a test my sgtmike88 and have not been disappointed yet. I also ordered and enjoy a similar model that I got directly from Victorinox, the Pioneer model with a large blade and small blade only. Same sturdy design, but less bulk in the pocket. Dave

I agree that the Soldier (or Pioneer or Electrician) are the strongest and most rugged SAKs.
The Cadet is also very nice (silver alox too) and is also strong but smaller and slim.
But if you must have the toothpick and tweezers I would go for the Tinker (I find the phillips to be more useful than the corkscrew).

Tinker or Super Tinker seem like a good compromise for me.

Soldier for light but strong EDC.
Spartan completed with the mini screwdriver: two blades, three screwdrivers, two openers, awl, tweezers, toothpick.
Compact if you need medium size scissors and a small file on the back of the parcel carrier/hook, plus you get a not too comfortable but very useful pen.
Explorer: in-line Phillips head screwdriver + magnifying glass, scissors. Two models, one has a saw too. A little bulky but not uncomfortable. See it at:

I'd say either the Tinker or the Explorer. The explore is my personal favorite because it has the addition of the saw scissors and magnifing glass.

I carry an Explorer. 2 blades, scissors, large & small screwdriver, magnifying glass, corkscrew, awl, and the best phillips screwdriver I've ever used. I'm in maintenance and I've fixed more machines with my SAK than with the $2000 worth of tools I own. It's about 13/16" thick, about the biggest I'd want to carry without a sheath. Highly reccomended.

I carry a Cybertool 34 which I love. But it is probably a little bigger then Dangelo would like. I would take one of the following:

Tinker
Super tinker
Climber
Explorer
Ranger
Soldier
Pioneer (multiple models)

Of these the Ranger is the largest but one of my favourite knives. I also like the Explorer.

I would try to find one of the Victorinox models with the green handles and "Mauser" on the side. Bigger than most SAKs, with 2 awesome plain edge blades(one clip and one spearpoint), wicked saw, can opener/bottle opener/screwdriver, and corkscrew.

Darn if you aren't correct. That site's search engine needs some help (it's clumsy to use, in my opinion), but there sure is an Explorer (my first SAK and therefore my first love) with a wood saw. I can feel my money burning a hole in my pocket as I write this.
