wow, I just found this site through a link at Chris's web page. I got my first CRK knife around 1990 from a friend for my birthday. It was a Shadow with a 9" spear point blade with the only marking on it being the number 12. This was my first CRK klnife and was in awe of it. I had seen a video of it being hammered into a tree and then someone jumping up and down on the knife without it bending or breaking. I have to admit, it sits in a display case most the time, with some of my other knives. Since then I have acquired a Project I that appears to be like a Shadow but with a small section of the blade having a serrated edge. Last week, while surfing Ebay, I ran across a Sable II at auction, and had the fortune to win the auction. I received it today and it's is like brand new, in the original box with the tag, and has a serial number of 54 and "Made in south Africa" on it. Birth year of 1988. I couldn't believe my good fortune. I've yet to buy any of Chris's folders, but I think there will be ar least one or two in my future. The next blade I want is the Shadow III and then the Nkonka. Of all my functional blades, I love my Shadow the most. It has been great finding this forum and reading all the posts. So far I have only spent 2 hours reading, but hope to get them all read soon. In the meantime hello all and good hearing from all of you that have posted.

Congrats on your recent fixed blade purchase. I saw the south africa made sable you're referring to on ebay. I wanted to bid, but lacked the funds. So far I've just got the Tanto 1: I love it. I'll have a few more this next month or so, the next 2 are going to be a shadow 1 and 3. Good luck with your purchases! You're going to be even happier when you make the transition to buying a sebenza!

Welcome to BF and especially the CRK forum!! Wow, you have some amazing CRK's!! That is incredible that you acquired one of his South African knives!! THAT is too cool for words!! I can't believe that you do not have a Sebenza yet!

I forgot to mention that the Shadow which was my first CRK knife is also from S.A. before Chris started marking them with the country of origin and was brought over during the embargo.

I saw that knife as well, and thought about bidding on it too. You got a screamin' deal! Glad it went to a nice home!

S.A. Knives... Great!
Some pics showing...

I have what I think is an SA knife that I'll be sending in for a refurb. No SA markings just numbered 70.
If anyone could give me any info on year/model I'd be grateful ;)
