I'm new to the board and have some questions about 4 Bucks I recently acquired.

1 is a 650 with a black and green plastic/rubber handle and a black blade.
It came in a nylon sheath that is embroidered with
"100 Years BUCK Knives 1902-2002"
2 is a 619 with a black rubber handle. The sheath doesn't appear to be the original. The blade is in good shape despite some schmuck using a mechanical sharpener on it
3 is a 471 with a black rubber handle that is stamped Taiwan. The sheath is the original plastic.
4 is a 119 that has the inverted stamping with only BUCK and USA on it.

The date codes are: in order 2003,1986,2001,????.

Any one know anything about these knives?

Mitch, Welcome . Your 119 with that stamping were mfg. from 1968-1971 . The blade steel is 440C . Inorder to pin it down any closer I need you to describe the spacers on the finger guard, their color and how many . Good find . DM

Correction, from the pummel down, there is 1 right after the pummel,
1 between a small aluminum spacer and the handle, 1 between the handle and the finger guard, and 1 in the middle of the finger guard

Ok, so you were counting total spacers . ( pommel and finger guard) It sounds like a 1969-71 mfg.. What style of sheath came with it ? DM

Here you go:

Looks like bone fiber spacers although it's always hard to tell from pictures.......so, that would put the knife in the 1967 to late 1969 timeframe.

Nice knife.

I forgot to mention it has a slight burr that runs from the hilt to where the blade curves, you can't really see it but you can feel it with your fingernail. I can see no evidence of it having been sharpened which leads me to wonder if it may have slipped through the cracks when BUCK did the QC and it may have not been finished. 1 of the spacers are sticking out from under the handle like it wasn't finished off properly

That old sheath looks like it is in good condition. The knife is in good condition also. Nice to see your "family" thanks for the pictures.

Your spacer looks similar to some of my old ones. That spacer sometimes stuck all the way out to the edge and was sometimes trimmed to various lengths. Some lifted up at the far edge and were trimmed by amateurs and pros alike with varying results.

Yours is hard to see but could be factory.

I don't know about the burr. Hard to say on that.

The 650 is a standard Nighthawk, that was offered for 2002, with an embroidered sheath.

Your 619, I believe was called a woodsmate? Your sheath looks to be correct for that model, a very thin padded nylon sheath with plastic insert was all they had.

471 is a newer diamondback model.

I think the 119 is covered ;)

Mitch, yes I agree the spacers on your 119 are the red bone hard fiber spacers and its looks normal for Buck at that time from 1967- sometime in 69 . A good find . I have the same model and yours is in much better shape than mine . I had to send mine in to Buck and they did a great job on it but still couldn't get all the pitting removed . DM
