I've looked through the forums and haven't seen anything concrete on this knife.

I bought this knife on Ebay, not so much for its worth, but because I like knives. And it had USA on the tang. It was very beat up and looked to have years of use on it. Fortunately it cleaned up quite nice. Unfortunately I had to put a new edge on the blades, but all and all it looks pretty good and the blades have excellent snap.

I was thinking of giving this 886 UH as a gift, but if it is a rare model I might hang on to it.

Opinions?

PS - Since this is my first post I will introduce myself. I am a middle aged knife collector (of sorts) that loves Old Timer. I have about 35 knives in my collection that just sit in a box in my basement. I claim no knowledge of knives. I especially like to clean up old knives and give them away as gifts. You would be amazed how many people really appreciate this.

Welcome to the forum
You better dust off the lens on your camera for this crowd ;)
No "knowledge of knives" is required to join in our Schradian banter

Have you tried looking here===>

I like "cleaning up" knives as well
But it upsets the purists so I keep my #0000 steel wool hidden under my bed so no one will see my stash..........

Knife gifts are the BEST gifts..IMHO

I didn't see it at http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/ , but I'll dig around some more.

Yes, I know I am not supposed to clean these up and sharpen them, but I prefer to think of it as re-tasking. Some of the knives I get are pretty rough and would be worthless otherwise and probably tossed out. I believe they deserve better. Now they get a chance to held and used again, as it should be because they are such well made tools. A labor of love to be sure. I could save my money and just buy collectibles, but there are so many people out there who will, if given the chance, treasure these even though they are used. It's a second life for a fine example of American craftsmanship. Of course I have a few that are never to be touched which I hope someday might be worth something. It's almost seems a shame for them to be locked up, so I try and think of it as an investment the next generation can enjoy.

Guess I better get a digital camera if I am going to post here.

Thanks for the reply.

notiones, "NO TI ONES?" I like that, may not be the correct moniker, but as I read it that is GOOD!!! Any how welcome and please stay awile and show us your stuff we "SCHRADIAN" brothers love to see more of the knives collected and used IMO as long as the cleaning is for continued use and enjoyment YE HAW.

notiones, a flatbed scanner is cheaper and easier to use to provide pictures of knives for posting. You can scan, enlarge as you do so, and crop out just the tangs for instance. The scanner will deposit jpegs straight into your documents!
These scans took 2-4 minutes. I save them in the image hosting site photobucket.com.
This is a tiny knife relatively, about 3 1/8 if I'm not mistaken. I should have included a ruler. The "pose" is the classic position to show the most features and details, and to display the condition. Artistic poses are O.K. for ogling, but distort the information.
WELCOME!!!
