Greetings all... well, let me get this out of the way first:

This knife was in a rather randomly packed box in my garage. My grandparents moved across the continent last year and in the process I *inherited* boxes upon boxes of .... STUFF. Towards the end of their packing I have gathered that it became a bit erratic. This knife was in with well, you guys don't care about my weird family... ;) So I am sorting through it all bit by bit (or box by box) and I came across this knife-- and as I am in the habit of researching these things before listing the occasional item on ebay or just for broadening my own knowledge thus began the hunt for information on mr. uncle henry 898. I managed to capture a decent photo of the markings thanks in large part to a nifty magnifier I have that has two extra hands lol. I have searched near and far and really have spent far too much time on this knife trying to find information. that's me. Any help/information you could give to sate this innate need I have to know would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Jeanette

I wanted to add that I have read through quite a few of the posts here in the Schrade thread and I am also dismayed by Taylor whats-the-company moving the manufacturing to China... it reminds me of a funny in this months Reader's Digest: (not verbatim) A sunday school teacher at a local church was explaining to her group of 5 and 6 year olds about how "God made everything." One little boy raised his hand and said, "that's not true! Most things are made in China!" ummm ... case in point? It's truly depressing.

Welcome to the forums!!!
There are some very knowledgeable folks here who will be along with REAL help... .. :)

For now....I'll guess that S.C.C. means... Schrade Cutlery Company....The + means stainless steel blades....though I haven't seen that particular stamp, nor could I find it in the materials I have. The Uncle Henry 898 is a small Stockman pattern with a pen blade rather than a spey blade, because with that tiny blade you couldn't spey anything but butterflies.....and they're too doggone hard to hold still.... :D It looks to have Delrin (plastic composite) scales, jigged to resemble stag, as did most of the UH lineup.

It's a nice speciman of a great knife.

Now then, someone who's REALLY good will be next, I'm sure.

Bill

Many thanks for consulting your materials... the internet is wonderful but definitely does not provide all the answers (unless you count forums like this one- ;) ) I have an eclectic collection of items on my hands (and in my storage shed, storage room and oh, yeah, my garage lol) and I could not possibly afford all the tangible research materials. I am now going to go walk around and try to get this flat spot on my bottom to return to normal.

Jeanette,
We have flat grinds, and we have flat broke, here on this forum....but nobody has a "flat bottom"......as that area always kind of levels out as we discuss Schrade cutlery...... :D

Oops. I'm sorry. :( I just get into a trance-like state though sometimes when I am pulling on threads and then hours fly by .... I'm good now though..
greetings to all-

Luis,
I really don't know. The thread you found is actually what hit on google to inform me about this wonderful site. Are there any tell tale signs that it's an 897 with 898 blade? If you guys need any more pictures I would be happy to shoot, upload and link-
Thank you...
Jeanette

Here's a picture of my Schrade Stockman knives, the first five on the top left are the same pattern which I thought could be the same as yours, the third and fifth from the top left as well as the second from the top right are 897UH, I can now see that yours appears to be smaller, has only one pin visible on the scales and the nail nick on the main blade is closer to the point of the blade. Interesting...

Luis,
Nice collection. ;) Sorry about the delay in reply, had to go out of town for a few days. I scrutinized the knife and found no obvious sings of having been altered... so, I don't know. Thanks for the help/insight though.

Greetings everybody, my apologies for the lapse in my response- it's been a bit hectic around my house as of late.
THANK YOU Grampd!!! :p It has ended one of my quests to search out the origin of something as I go about the task of educating myself on identification/history on all kinds of different things.. I do wonder how this knife wound up in my garage though considering that no one in my immediate family claims ownership! hehe... possession: 9/10 of the law.
Cheers.
Jeanette
