Has the HI board ever considered putting up a permanent thread (sticky?) that would be specifically for the purpose of answering frequently asked questions (FAQ thread)?

If not, or if it has been considered but has just never been acted upon, would this board now consider something like this be done?

The sticky could be one that one can not respond to, just strictly be for FAQ. As questions come up that may not be on the FAQ, new ones could be added to the list.

Some of FAQ could include the basics for someone just coming in, such as....

What is a khukuri?
What is HI?
Who was Bill Martino (Unce Bill)?
Who is Yangdu Martino?
Who was Rusty Slate?
Who are the current Kamis, what are their blade markings?
Which Kamis are no longer with HI, and what were their blade markings?
What is an HI "deal of the day", and why are they sold at lower prices than the HI website?
What is Bigorkha?
Who runs/owns Bigorkha, same as HI?
What is the HI life warrantee policy?
Etc....

The FAQ section can also have more product specific and more advanced questions, such as.....

What steel do kamis use for making khukuri blades?
What tools are used for making HI khukuris?
What kinds of materials are used for handle making?
Is there a list of handle materials and material facts (maybe pro's and con's to each type)?
Where is their brass, silver, and other metals accessed from?
How many man hours does it take to manufacture an HI khukuri?
How is an HI blade hardness achieved, what is hardened, and what approximate hardness is applied to the average HI khukuri knife?
How long is the average work day at Bigorkha?
Different model designations, and descriptions/photos of each? (This question could be linked to the HI website online catalog).
On average, how many HI knives are produced each year?
Different handle construction descriptions, (partial length rat-tail tang, full length rat-tail tang, and full bodied tangs)?
Why the notch in the blade near the bolster?
What are the meanings of the grooves and designs placed along the spines of these knives?
What are the grooves for on the handles, any specific meanings?
On average, how many Kamis work at the Bigorkha shop?
Etc.....

The above are just some examples of what could be in such a FAQ section, and I'm sure much more can be thought of ;)

Would the forums administration please consider adding such a thing to this forum?

Thanks in advance for the consideration :)

Not a bad idea, but the HI web page already discusses much of this succintly.

A FAQ page on this board would join a crowd, and may even be too big for anything but it's own page.

A FAQ section might be included in the HI web page though.

That would work fine, and could even be directly linked from one of the existing stickys already here.
The only thing would be that it would probably be more difficult to constantly upgrade a HI website FAQ section, where as a forum version could be easier and more convieniently updated with new FAQ's. In either case, the FAQ section could be linked to it's sibling (link to FAQ from the HI website or link to the FAQ from the HI forums).

An FAQ section would be a nice addition, IMO :)

There is a "Khukuri FAQ" on the HI website that could be expanded to accomodate the new information. Or, as Jimmy suggests, having it on the forum would also work. Content would be the important thing. HI could poll forum members to get the questions.

Much more character building to read the posts yourself...

BTW, My book, "Crib Notes for Khukuris" (which also comes with Bura's personal email address) is available at booksellers everywhere.

wasn't that just recommended by Oprah's book club? It'll be going in my beach bag this summer!:D

There are plenty of good sites that have FAQ sections. Not sure if a lot of folks here are big into AR-15 type rifles, but one company that has a great FAQ section is that of the Bushmaster/Quality Parts company.

I think whether it becomes a reality via a more thorough version on the HI website "or" via a new one on HI's forum, it could be a very good thing............. IMO ;)
