Here is one I just finished. It is 1095/Wrought san-mai. Wrought fittings with a stabilized redwood burl handle. I would really appreciate any critique as this knife was pretty far out of my comfort zone. It is my first s-guard and first time attempting a handle that stands a little proud of the fittings. That sure isn't easy. The knife has a few points that really bother me, but I will keep them to myself until I hear what you all have to say.
I am giving this knife to a co-worker of mine that I worked with for the last 6 years. He was my manager, but I am moving on (same company) to manage a site myself. He is a cool guy and over the span of 6 years, I can't think of a time we had any sort of run-in or disagreement. Pretty rare so I figured I better make him a big ol knife.
Anyway, I would really appreciate critique and if you don't like it, please tell me. Trust me, I can take it. Thanks for looking.

I see many nice features; the san mai is very nice. The knife has nice lines. If the handle was more rounded on the outside, I think it would add to the overall look.

Thanks for sharing, Fred

Thanks Fred. I always struggle with handle shaping. I tried to use the machine less and did more shaping with rasps to slow things down, but it looks a little off to me as well.

Mike, I like everything about it, but the handle looks a little off to me as well. The blade, guard and ferrule are awesome. Also, I like the selection of colors; they go together nicely.

I really like the effect of the san-mai on the blade. Can you feel the edges of the handle when holding it?

Thanks Wayne. The handle is quite comfortable, I just think that visually it is a bit off. If by asking about "the edges of the handle" you mean the way it stands a little proud of the spacer, you can feel it. It isn't something you notice when holding the knife, but if you run your finger over the junction it is definitely there. Hope that answers your question.
