Title pretty much says a lot. I just placed an order with Cumberland for one of these after looking at them for close to a year! This is the first S&M knife I will have. I really liked the pattern and it looks like this is a heavy duty piece, which I'll be sure to like. It has ATS-34 blades (3), and I'm wondering how the S&M ATS34 holds up. How about the fit and finish in general, (all S&M) and then f&f specific to this knife? Any and all information will be appreciated!!

Hi there Cutter,

The File & Wire Tested knives of Schatt & Morgan are of high quality, in fact they are touted as the best of what they make. The ATS 34 is very nice and should hold up well, I have several S&M's in ATS 34 but keep them them locked up away from a stone..:D

I liked the Schatt & Morgan brand so much that 80% of what I collect are S&M's..The wildcat driller is a big knife and quite a handful..

I like the F&W series:

Fit and finish rival that of customs, even if the materials don't. I've been carrying one of these Deluxe English Jacks as an EDC for a while and the blade steel is durable and easy to sharpen.

You just might find it's too pretty to use...

Has happened to me with more than one S&M pattern.
Anyway, great knife, you'll love it.

I have to echo the above statements, you will like the steel, durable construction & as good as F&F gets on a production slippy.
I too couldn't resist the Deluxe English Jack after getting one, I picked up a factory second (chipped bone) for an EDC. Love the long ATS-34 blades, hold an edge well but sharpen much easier than say D2.
Also just picked up a factory second of the latest 2 blade Trapper. What a great camp knife, this one's going right in the saddlebags.

Thanks for the replies and pics. I'm "afraid" of it being too nice to use myself, and if so, in the drawer it will go!

I got it Friday and your correct....it is very NICE! Fit and finish is outstanding, and the walk and talk on the main blade is strong. I almost think I need to have a nice leather sheath made to carry it.

I just ordered one myself from Cumberland. Also after looking for almost a year.

Did you ever find a Leather sheath for it?

Got mine today...This thing is a horse!

As big as my Case Elephant Toe, but with better steel in the blades.:D I like it, just need a sheath for it.

Hey Jenner,

I'm glad you like it...I agree it is a horse and a pretty nice looking one at that...

Take care,

BTTT

I love this knife, it is my EDC now that I got a wire edge on that ATS-34.

Two questions;

If I should get another S&M F&W what pattern to pick up?

and

Anybody got an idea on a source for a sheath for the driller?

Also, should I be treating this S/M with more reverence, instead of using it to open packages and harvest my vegetable garden?

ALL knives need using once in a while, can't treat them like museum relics! Where's the enjoyment in that?
