These Big fellas came out the other day and did not last long at all. I did not personally pick one up as I'm committed to my 2016 purchases but wanted to see if anyone did or would have and what your impressions/ thoughts are. They look to be a very nice knife. They only made 90 total with 30 jigged bone, 30 elk and 30 smooth white bone. Lemme know what you think

Here's the specs-

Manufacturer:
Schatt & Morgan
Item #:
71 S&M GrdDdy BrwnJgBn
Schatt & Morgan Keystone Edition Granddaddy Barlow with Brown Jigged bone Handles 1 of 30.
5" OAL
4" Clip Blade
ATS34 Stainless Clip Blade
"Schatt & Morgan 1 of 30" etch on main blade
Brown Jigged Bone Handle
Brass Liner
1 of 30 Limited run

And of course a few borrowed pictures

I looked at them and was tempted. If I recall there was a smooth white bone that I had my eye on. I've overspent my 2016 budget and it's May:confused:

I liked that smooth white bone as well and nearly pulled the trigger on it. What held me back though is that with the long, stamped bolster, I don't like the looks of the end cap and shield with it. I'm usually an end cap kinda guy, but IMHO, barlows shouldn't have a shield or end cap. I hope the fit and finish is good on these. I recently picked up a Queen Gunstock in curly zebra that has outstanding F/F. i hope that continues.

Love the main bolster, the bone, and the long pull. I have a limited File & Wire large Barlow and it's one of the nicer-looking knives in my collection.

Don't much mind the keystone shield, even though it is a Barlow, but I'm really meh about the small end bolster. It would probably come down to price for me, but I just don't think I'm in the market for a #71 and for what I imagine the price of this one was I'd probably just get the regular issue, which is also shielded but more Barlow-y. :o

I was also very tempted but have spent too much lately on knives.

I'd be interested to hear from somebody that got one on how the fit and finish turned out on them.

Bone looks good, pin fish (domed) seems very good too, I like the stamped bolster. But like others, I question the use of an end cap on a 'Barlow' and including a shield. It just looks wrong I'm afraid, borderline parts knife look.

There are a couple of other Queen/SM single blades that do look very nice however and are new releases. Their recent Whittler deserves more recognition in my view. Nevertheless, there's still something missing from recent Queen releases, despite all the hoo-har about new ownership (is it 3 or 4 years now??) their stuff does NOT look or feel as good as their D2 Bonestag series from around 2001-10. Those are some fantastic production knives. The new Queen knives have pinned shields, but the shield itself is sometimes mis struck or has parts of it buffed away on knives I've received, and on one of them the shield moves around....

Out of the box and 'in me pocket'
This S&M Grand Daddy Barlow blade is as large as the 98 Whitler. I'll post a comparison later.

Hi,
I liked the looks of it so much, I just ordered one.
However, how do you know it's ATS34 Stainless?
Apparently the box it comes in just says "keystone series", not not "file&wire"
