I picked up this Snow & Nealley double bit for $5. One side was completely mushroomed. I worked on it with file and brought it back. It's considerable smaller - about 7" across. I hung it on a 28" O.P. Link cruiser double bit handle:

It's now about 26" or so.

I'm wondering what people thought about cutting off the handle at 18" or so to make a saddle axe. I'd lament the lack of a end knob but have a few cruisers already and thinking of experimenting. I am leaning towards leaving this one alone though after some feedback on other sites

thanks.

I'd probably leave it as it is. Worked on a 1 1/2 pound double bit that I hung on a 16" handle. Awkward and didn't think it would be handy for anything-- I would have put it on a 25" handle if it were mine.

Worth a try. With no end knob you could just wrap the grip with friction tape and add a lanyard. Might be cool at 18" to 20".

I would probably leave it like you have it. I think it would still be too heavy for one hand use so the longer handle would be better.
