Just picked up the JAN 2009 issue of S.W.A.T. magazine and in addition to another good article/review by Jeff (pg. 18), there was a very nice review on the Becker Necker knife by none other than Rueben Bolieu aka bearthedog (pg. 88). Way to go btd and congrats :thumbup:.

Hey Jeff, I can't afford all these magazines.

Why don't you and Reuben publish your own magazine?
Seems you have enough articles spread out over different ones you could make your own!

Name it something pithy like Rat Tales

The quickest way I know of to go bankrupt is to start a new print magazine ;)

Hey Jeff, I just realized that I put bdt instead of btd in the title :o. If you could change it I'd appreciate it greatly :).

XD45 - if you go to the main page that lists the threads here and double click just to the right side of it, you can edit it yourself since you created it.

But if you really want to see something nice, take a look at my 2-page spread photo on pages 52 and 53 (Tracking article). Now that's some art if I do say so myself! ;)

The guy that wrote that article is a good friend of mine and he and I instruct some classes together. That's him on the cover (also my photo).

BTW: I'm still wearing that MTM watch and Mike is wearing the Nite watch. Two of the best watches I have found for what we do and the shit we put gear through. G-Shock is great but they're digital and I hate digital watches now that my eyes are going.

And let me throw some real kudos in for the magazine itself. SWAT publisher Rich Lucibella and Editor Denny Hansen are two of the most honorable men I know in life. They DO NOT edit articles or suggest articles to appeal to advertisers like so many other magazines do. If it's a piece of shit and we (the writers) call it a piece of shit, then that's the way they print it in the magazine. Advertising and Editorial are completely separate when it comes to this magazine. It's probably the most honest magazine on the news stands when it comes to outdoor gear, training classes, etc. If you're not a subscriber yet, then you should be. Also, if you know your stuff and want to get published then I suggest sending Denny Hansen a query on. Be warned though: don't try to bullshit the readership or that will be the end of your SWAT magazine career ;)

I look forward to S.W.A.T. every month. Jeff always has a good review on something, and Pat Rodger's articles are always great reads with a good amount of sarcasm thrown in for good measure :D.

SWAT's been on my continuous reading list for years.

The content truly does go beyond the title. It's worth looking into if you haven't.

Man those Nite watches look nice. Not bad priced as far as a higher end watch either. Great article. Im interested to know about just how much it was exposed to water though(both watches), and how the polymer strap is holding up to the sweat and humidity of the jungle. I had a Gshock band break down pretty quick, not even a year and it was cracked up. Finally broke.

I am sporting a maratac AQC, and am pretty happy with it so far, but am looking atgetting a marathon SAR or JSAR. However, now you got me rethinking and looking at both the MTM and Nite. I value your guys' opinion that much.

Both factory bands are awesome. After a year with the K-Mart velcro band on the MTM I finally switched back to the factory Titanium band and it's holding up great. Mike is still wearing the polymer band on the Nite and it isn't giving any problems either. I'm not into high-end watches but I highly endorse both of these. As far as water goes, no problem on either and that's after a lot of exposure. Hell, I take a shower in the MTM almost every night. Don't get me wrong, I love 59 dollar G Shock watches but they are digital and once your eyes start going that plain sucks. Also, have you ever tried to change a battery in a G-Shock? I've got spare O-rings and all types of extra watch parts laying around here from my attempt. This induction charging system on the MTM works great and you never have to crack a seal on the watch.

That charging thing is very forward thinking of MTM. I have been looking for a bomb proof watch for some time. Gshocks are nice, but I agree with you on the battery thing.....

Hmm. Very cool. I have some other things to consider now when lookng at my next watch. Nice to see a no BS assessment of them. Thanks for the writeup, and awnsering my question!!

They're expensive but from my experience they are tough as nails and hold up well. I was hard on it during my test phase. of course I didn't try to drive it through cement blocks with a hammer but I did wear it without regard to whether it might get broken by doing things I normally do.

The MTM watches look nice, of course the least pricey one cost more then the car I am currently driving... :/ My wife's reaction was "Nice.... but not in this lifetime..." sigh.
