Here's my rundown on the new Tiger from S.W.A.T.(Specialized Weapons by Advanced Technologies in Phoenix, AZ.). It seems to be a real nice knife, well made, good materials, and swings pretty well, to my notion. It could use maybe a touch more weight in the handles(have to put a little extra into a latch drop)but the size/weight ratio is excellent! The biggest drawback I see is that it doesn't come with a sheath so one of the first stops, after I get my fill of playing with it for a week or two, will be at Master Clay's for an IWB rig

. I posted this before I read the latest thoughts about this knife in the Advanced Tech post and am in agreement with Clay in that this is, IMHO, a fine balisong! Check out the pictures and descriptions and see what you think. I don't do the aerial thing but the 'stuff' I do I've done for many years and this thing really flies, for a 5" bali. Take a look and I hope you like it, Dudley

D.D. and Clay,

I agree with Clay, re: weight. When I first picked up a M42, it literally felt like it was made out of plastic it was so light. Yet, I know how strong Titanium is and have accepted it. It is an extremely well made BaliSong.

My comment in the other thread was about longevity and durability.

How is the Aluminum going to fare over time? Are you going to be left with something that works no more after you have grown so fond of it that you cannot live without it?

At about $140.00 if it is in fact durable, that's one hell of a deal. A five inch Balisong that you can actually flip and it is not a Custom. That's my kind of progress actually.

They said a Brass version is coming out in June.

I hope a steel version follows...for the absolute in long life, I don't think you can beat Steel and Ti.

And the same goes for a knife...

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw potential in this piece.

Don, I don't think that longevity will be a problem. True, I have only put about 5 hours total on it so far. But it shows none of the normal wear you'd find on say, a BEAR or JAG in the same amount of time. And I have NOT been easy on this thing!

The larger tang pins (and the receiving area) will go a long way to dissipate some of that energy that usually KILLS other Balis. Lets face it, that is the most stressed point on a Balisong. This is an improvement that I've been crying about for quite some time now.

The A.T actually feels a lot like the BM42. You won't notice much difference at all in the closed position because, the A.T. is only a little over 1/2 inch longer than the BM42. Remember, BM had to add extra length to the handles to accommodate the latch gate.

Like I said before, for their first attempt at a Balisong, they did a very commendable job.

I'm just hoping that they sell enough that they'll be able to drop the price down a bit.

My Advanced Tech arrived today. I don't have the collections or expertise of Clay & Dawkind, but I agree with them in that I like mine. Not enough to supplant my BM42S, but more than enough to keep it & to plan to buy their next one, the brass handled one scheduled for June.

IMHO it is a quality knife, well done, that they can be justifiably proud of. The blade doesn't really do anything for me ... I'd prefer to see an Imada High Hollow or a Scimitar on the next one.

If I could afford only one, I'd get the BM42, but fortunately I can afford them both so I'm happy with mine.
