Not that I'd ever use one of these myself, but for a cheapo gift, it seams pretty good. G10 handles and 440C..anyone had any luck?

I stopped by Ranger Joe's checked out the Smith & Wesson "Extreme Ops" folder. If I could describe the folder in a simple term, it would be Extreme Crap! Don't waste your time or money on that rubbish. All the samples I saw were crappy. Don't be fooled by the fact that they sport G-10 liners because these Extreme Ops folders have the worst fit and finish I've seen in a production knife. Let me put it to you this way, it doesn't even come close to a $20.00 Kershaw Vapor.

The one I handled a few days ago looked really nice, I was considering the tanto w/ green G-10. I realize they probably aren't a great knife but I was tempted.

Jeff/1911. :p

I agree, not very good. I paid $19.00, blade was very dull, thumbstuds looked like they would fall off and the allen screws were rounded. But it has nice weight and feels good in the hand. I will carry a Spyderco native instead. You could get a Spyderco Solo button lock for $25.00, G10 and much better steel.

Well I am obviosly a newb because IMO this is a nice knife...

Put it this way...if this knife is crap then I must be in for a real treat if I stick around here.

Ok...how about this...how much to I have to spend to get a knife that puts this one to shame ?

My previous knife was a Kershaw Scallion and I gotta say that this one is nicer in several ways.

NO! NONONONONONONO!!!!!!!!!
THESE ARE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE METALSTICKS.
It's exhausting to drive people away from these all day long. The construction is sub-par AT BEST! I don't believe I have ere seen a worse 440c in my life. You could get a $40(msrp) vapor. You would never have to worry about the screws disappearing or the lock failing under reasonable use. Sure, it's 440a, but the heat treat more than covers the difference. How about that Kershaw Storm? $30 on the first site I clicked. Just please, PLEASE, don't let Taylor cullery think that it's okay to put out this sort of merchandise!
end rant

Thats a much better knife. I'm not sure if they make that model with the axis lock or not but if they do get it. Also you might look at the 550 or 551 models most everyone likes them. Welcome to the forum.

  It's the Gerber/Harsey Air Ranger meets Pat Crawford!!!

Still a knockoff to me.

The auto version is improved, i had about 2000 openings (3 years) of use on mine and it still had no blade play.
