First off I'm not a big Taylor Cutlery fan but I do like this one. I saw it on Balde Auction today and missed out on it . Its a Smith & Wesson H.R.T. MG folder and I cannot find one any where on the net?? Does any one know of a site that has them. It's a clone of the Darrel Ralph Maddmax.
Thanks for any info
Todd

The proper word is ripoff or theft-- not clone. Sorry, but am not going to assist in piracy.

Who's being ripped off?

A couple of things in this thread to clear up:

1) The folder is a production version of a knife that is made by Mike Lamprey. Madd Maxx borrows the flipper/pivot design from this knife. It also has a liner lock instead of the integral lock that are on both MM and Lampreys.

2) Both Mike Lamprey and Darrel are credited as designers of the knife, and they are both compensated for their work.

So DDR isn't ripping off Mike, and Taylor isn't ripping off Mike or Darrel.

I know that your intentions were good, Bugs, but ripoff, piracy, and theft are mighty strong words, particularly when they're completely wrong.

I take this personally because I've been involved in this knife from the beginning, getting the two makers together and providing my knife to serve as Darrel's model. It's a good design, bought and paid for by the manufacturer, and providing a tidy sum for the two designers.

It is people who speak without knowing the full truth who serve to take money out of the designer's pockets, not Taylor - at least in this case.

Bugs, for once this S&W "ripoff" is indeed a legitimate knife. Darrel and Mike both are getting paid for this design. Hopefully, these HRT Series of knives indicates a turning point in Taylor Cutlery's business practices. Time will only tell....

The knives are out now and should be at dealers but exactly who has them I have no idea. Hopefully I should be able to secure one of these soon, if not definitely at Blade.

I had a similar post concerning this very knife a month ago. Look under " MADD MAXX by Smith&Wesson?" on 5-02-2001. There is some very good info about this knife.
