has anybody held one of these? what are your opinions of it? i like the dual flippers... it seems as though they could be used similarly to the emerson wave. they're reminiscent of the madd maxx as well, which is way out of my price range. know if it's tip-up or -down? thanks for any input.
peace.

edit: they can be seen here: http://www.knifeoutlet.com/sw.htm

Alex -
The knife is a very nice piece, especially considering the price and the manufacturer. You'll be amazed at how light the magnesium handle feels! The knife is tip down.

damn. tip-down means the flippers aren't in the right spot for wave-style opening...
oh, well. >>knife surgery required<<

recommend getting one?

Don't they use Magnesium in firestarters? If so, wouldn't that be a tad dangerous...I mean, if you accidentally dropped it in the fire or it got too hot, maybe it would explode or something. I wonder...

Back to topic. I handled one at Blade, and I am very impressed with it. It's on my buying list.

I have one. Actually, it's a pretty nice piece, very comfortable in the hand. Darrel and I tested the lock, subjecting it to over 500 openings by flipping the blade out. The lock is still hitting in the same location of the tang, passes the spine whack, and there is zero play in the lockup. Taylor Cutlery's infamous past notwithstanding, this particular knife in the H.R.T. series is a pretty good folder.

Andrew - true, magnesium is used in fire starters but I don't think you have anything to worry about, as the handles of the knife are anodized (much in the way aluminum is anodized e.g. Benchmade 940). You would have to scrape off the coating to get to the bare metal. That is something that is hard to do accidentally.

great! now to find a good price on one...
by the way... a friend's father had magnesium wheels (well, two actually, sitting in a corner. the others were someplace else.) for his racecar. the garage caught fire, and yes, they were very negatively affected by the gasoline-induced blaze. lots of huge crashing noises came from inside, leading me to think that the wheels were flying/bouncing around as they combusted. garage was pretty much wasted, too, since it was a small, wooden building. luckily, the car was being painted at another guy's house at the time.

Could it be Taylor Cutlery is on the road to redemption?

It could simply be Darrel's influence in the case of his pieces, since he's obviously a very talented man.

For Taylor to "redeem" itself, it would have to stop manufacturing for sale those knives that are blatant ripoffs of the competition's products. I know it's hard to come up with a completely original design, but let's face it -- Taylor makes some obvious copies.

I won't bother getting into the S&W angle, as that's been beaten to death...

AWESOME

Don't think twice about picking up a couple

They open quick as a switch - my buddies were looking for the button after I opened it up in front of them.

Quickest action I have seen for a while in a manual folder - plain edge is my preference

www.knifeoutlet.com has them for $45

3 thumbs up
