S&w Hrt

I haven't had the chance to handle the S&W Magnesium handled knife you indicated, but I recently purchased 2 Smith & Wesson HRT folders, an FL2 and an HRT Fighter, both designed by Darrel Ralph.

Both knives are under $40.00 and are very well made for the price. These are actually the first Smith & Wesson knives I have ever owned and I like them very much. Both open smoothly and lock solidly with no blade wobble in any direction. They are also extremely sharp and carry well clipped to the pocket.

The FL2 is a frame lock and is very slim, yet big enough for large hands. The thumb disc on top of the blade is within good reach for easy opening. The all metal frame has cut-outs, but there is a large enough area for engraving your initials or logo.

The Fighter is my favorite as it fits my hand better and is a bit easier to open than the FL2. The skeletonized handle is made of aluminum and has steel liners as well. I usually don't care for bead blast finishes, but this knife has a nice matte finish which is actually quite attractive.

These knives appear to be made by the same factory that makes knives for CRKT, Timberline, Edge-Tech (Outdoor Edge) so the quality is consistent and I recommend them to anyone looking for good solid knife and an easy price.

Several of the guys I work with carry them. For the $$$ they don't seem bad. I prefer the FL2 or HRT fighter personally. I never did care for S&W knives, but these Darell Ralph designs seem to be good value.

The HRT is a terrific value. In addition, the lockup is solid and reliable. You can't miss for the $$$.:)

THe supper light and strong handle is ergonomic. THe 440c is
good blade steel and it opens like lightning. THe flipper becomes a guard and in a crunch you could start a fire with it. Is there anything else you could expect a low cost folder to do? I don't think so. I think it's hard to beat for the price. Give one a try , you'll like it.:D

I really like the knife. It is very comfortable to grip and can be waved, flipped or thumbstud opened.

Nice! :D

I got to handle the FL2 during a passaround thats still going on. I like the knife design and the price is unreal, however towards the end of my testing the Screws in the scales were to the point of falling out they were so loose. I was the first in the passaround, now it appears that I last read that they are stripped. I hope this is not a common problem, b/c for the price, its one hell of a knife.

The last answer is from 2002, so I think that a lot of thinking can change, so I would like to know what do you think right now about the S&W HRT ( Especially the users that use it as an EDC ).

It is because I am planing to use it as an EDC and I would like to know about the durability, edge retention, etc.

Thank you.

I did not receive any answer...... :grumpy:

Let me tell you what I think about it:

I am using this knife as a EDC since Nov 1 ( 16 days ago ).

I made a sheath for it in order to carry it tip up in my left front pocket ( I am lefty ), using this sheath I can open it using the waved style, so I love it, I have the funtionality ( wave ) of the Emmerson with this great knife.

One it is open the flippers are guards so it is a great knife for self defense.

I was using this knife for all kind of shores that I used to do with my EDC.
- Open boxes when is needed.
- Prepare some meals ( Pico de gallo for example " Tomatoes, Onion and Chile ).
- Cut some oranges.
- Cut some little green apples daily.

I was testing all my best knives I am sure that it is the best cutter that I have, it cut like a craizy, even better than my BM31 and the BM43 that I have.

As soon as I get the sheath pics I am going to upload it.
