I read somewhere in the forums about S&W copying designs of other makers or companies.I was wondering where the design for the S.W.A.T. knives came from.I have one and love the shape and feel.As far as quality goes,it is alright for the price.I would like to have one from the original source.Who's original design is it?Thanx for any info, breeze.

I've always thought that they looked a lot like The Boker top lock.

I don't see any resemblance whatsoever.

Junglee has also put out a full line with very similar looks.

The quality of the Smith and Wesson knives I own or have handled (and which are, I believe, manufactored by Taylor Cutlery) have been middle-of-the-road to mediocre. I don't think they're a rip off, really, but I'm also prejudiced. Due to Smith & Wesson's cave-in to Clinton's attempts to kill the 2nd Amendment, I will no longer purchase licensed Smith and Wesson products.

From a quality standpoint, you've got to watch out, too -- S&W will apparently allow its name to be slapped on just about anything. The S&W multitool I've seen advertised in the knife mags looks to be on the same quality level as those Chinese Leatherman fakes with the clunky plastic handle slabs.

And tomorrow when you wake up it will be worse.

I'm with razoredj on this one; both on the facts and the politics!

S&W really does slap their logo on anything. They have a line of boots and mountain bikes also. Thats all they do is put a name on another makers product. I think all their stuff is junk. Even the stuff they do make. Well, er..the .40 cal was a good idea.

I felt this way prior to the deal with the devil. They had to lay off alot of employees. Senator Kerry(D)MA had the nerve to blame it on the NRA.

I've steered a few friends clear of these S&W, SWAT knives in favour of CRKTs. The marketing people know "Smith & Wesson" is one of the most recognizable names around and took full advantage of the fact that a lot of non-knife people are attracted to that.

From the stories I've heard, quality varies greatly. I've only handled one example and it worked ok, but I'd much rather spend a little extra and get a much better CRKT Mirage.
