Hi all,

I've been reading reviews on the web and it seems like a pretty good gun. Any thoughts from the BF crew, particularly any of you who might have owned and/or shot one?

My brother has one. His was worked on by David Bowie of bowietacticalconcepts. In addition to a 4 pound trigger job and the stipling, he had David install a Leupy reflex sight after milling away the slide. BUI are still on the gun as you can see.

It shot great out of the box prior to upgrades. Shoots even better now.

I have owned a few Glocks and presently have a Mod 22. Although I have learned to shoot it decently and its accuracy/reliability are quite good, both the M&Ps and the Springfield XDs feel a lot better in my hands (which are not large for a guy my size). I seem to be just as accurate with them. I always advise folks to check them out because they may feel the same way I do.

I think that's part of it for me too. While I'm 6' tall, my hands are a bit on the small side, so I think that's part of the reason the Glock doesn't fit me as well. In particular, the finger grooves don't match my natural finger spacing really well.

I have been considering the M&P Compact 9mm. The one sticking point for me is price. I can get a new Gen4 G26 for $440 with 3 mags using the Homeland security discount. Not sure if S&W extended their discount to firefighters/EMS/paramedics like Glock did.

I have a 5" 9mm M&P Pro and the 9mm compact version. I also own several Glocks.

Overall, I like the M&P better than the Glock. This says a lot for me, because I refused to carry anything besides a Glock for years. I shoot the M&P better, find it more ergonomic and feel that it has a tiny bit less felt recoil than my G17. The trigger on the Pro model is way better than any of my Glocks. My M&P Pro and G23 are my main carry guns.

I don't think you could go wrong with an M&P. They are outstanding.

the M&P has better sights (excluding factory steel night sights),beavertail area for larger hands, and better trigger pull out of the box than the non competition Glocks (this was conveyed to the head engineer at last years SHOT show, but we were blown off)...check with the exploded diagram of the trigger group... there are small springs and detents not found with the Glock....check to see what the USPSA shooters that are winning major matches, and not factory sponsored are shooting for a hint on reliability... either the M&P (5inch) or G17/34 would make a good choice...the M&P doesn't have the track record of the Glock yet, but is very attractive ... I shoot a G34

Just in case you have 23 minutes with which you don't know what to do:

My wife has one. Fits both our hands, even without switching backstraps. Decent white-dot sights out of the box. Trigger not bad stock, at least for a plastic wondernine. Definitely my pick versus G19/17 or XD, but I've not compared it to the XD(m). If I were going to abandon my 1911s for a 'modern' auto, it would be an M&P or an HK.

We've had minor annoyances with a squeaky recoil spring and occasional failure to go into complete battery from a slingshot (possibly due to my wife not employing enough force); one of these days I'll debug that. Otherwise, stone-cold reliable and as accurate as expected.

Factory 17-round mags are quite expensive ($33) and hard to come by, but they're very robust.
