S&W Model 19?

Went to a local gun show today, and purchased a nice revolver. A S&W Model 19 with 6" barrel and big fat target grips, hammer and trigger. Adjustable sights; and the gun has got to be easily 95% condition or I would say closer to 98%. Fired, but not many times. Zero holster wear, and the only thing that resembles a scratch is a slight ring around the cylinder from spinning. Not a super old model 19, since the barrel is not pinned and the cylinder chambers are not recessed, but still a good deal, considering the condition. Inside the cylinder, it's marked model 19-5, if that helps date the pistol. I estimate mid 80s? Can't post a pic, due to the 3 day waiting period here in the great state of Illinois, but I will as soon as I can. Opinions?

No, I didn't really NEED it, but I just wanted it. I already own a Model 28, so I can use that to fire the hot .357 loads. This one will be getting a steady diet of mild .357 and .38 specials. :)

That's a good revolver.....it being a K frame, you're being prudent about it's diet.

Can't date it for you, however the dash 5 sounds like it would go into the early-mid nineties......just a guess though.

Enjoy it, it's a good shooter.

so I would say that Zinn is right on the money.

Dan, if you paid anything less than $350.00, ya done good.

I carried a 4" Model 19 on duty for many (10) years. Shot mucho reloads through same as well. Fine weapon, and with a bit of action polishing and a set of Herrett's "Jordan Trooper" grips, the best DA revolver I've ever handled.

Dan, I got a 4" M19 TT/TH/TS for my 16th birthday 32 years ago. Dad had kept the receipt. $165 OTD.

It is a great pistol. A buddy who is a hell of a smith (actually the guy that was workin the table with me at KnobCreek) smoothed the action, bead blasted and blued it.

That piece is more accurate than I can ever squeek out of it.

You got a nice piece there man.

I can't wait until Tuesday, to pick it up. I'll take some pics then and post them here.

The first pistola I ever owned was a S&W model 19 in a 4 inch barrel some nearly 30 years ago. Got it from my favorite Uncle as Christmas present in 1976. It was indeed a mighty fine shooter!..

Looking forward to seeing your photo's Danbo.

i carried a 4"bbl 66 which is the stainless 19 for a while till i quit revolvers, good gun imho.

do they pin the bbls on the 19/66? i thought that was on the N frame stuff, could be wrong though. my bro-in-law has a mint 3" pinned bbl round butt N frame .357 i am gonna get some day soon hopefully.......

The 4" model 19 was the workhorse of MANY police departments for MANY years and served very well. With the "extra" 2" of barrel you'll have a "better" sighting-radius, and a slightly increased muzzle velocity over the 4" barrel. The (4") model 19 was Bill Jordan's favorite pistola, and he was a master of it. (No Senond Place Winner by Bill Jordan is a book to have.).

Glockman: I got a copy of No Second Place Winner back in 1965 or so, when I was in the army. I was contemplating a career in police work even then, and it became my combat shooting "bible" for many years.

you'll like it! I aquired one like that a year or so ago when a buddies dad wanted a crossbow. He only wanted the 150.00 :D they were gonna give him on trade- I did not need another but I did not hem-haw.Oh and it was as new as ya get with a half a box through it too... I like the model 19. My first was a snubby 19 that I eventually sold but I replaced it with the same in a model 66.
My 6 inch is in for a action job, reminds me to call my friend who is doing it! 3 months is turning into 8....

Think these will look good on my model 19? I know, they're not as hand filling as the big, honkin target grips, but I believe they'll look pretty nice next to that nice blued finish.

Nice looking grips. Good color... Great contrast in blue steel... Are those hardwood grips in white oak?
