Can anyone compare the Smith and Wesson SWPENBK tactical pen ( https://www.knifecenter.com/item/SWPENBK/Smith-and-Wesson-Black-Aluminum-Tactical-Pen ) to the Smith and Wesson M&P SWPENMP2BK tactical pen ( https://www.knifecenter.com/item/SW...K-Aluminum-Military-and-Police-2-Tactical-Pen )?

I work a job where I can't carry a blade or my gun, I use a pen a good deal daily, so a tactical pen seems to be my best bet for any protection. I like the first one because the tip for protection seems sharper therefore more effective. I like the second one because the cap attaches to the other end when using it as a pen.

Thanks for any input!

I prefer the 2nd due to the cap screwing to the other end like you mentioned. Actually, if you look at Amazon (I can't link the pics) or other pics of the 2nd pen, it seems pointy enough.

You could always add a high lumen flashlight with strike bezel too. Blinding + striking is another option. Would they say no to a flashlight?

I agree, it looks pretty pointy. I guess when I looked at it before the end of the 2nd option looked more like a "glass breaker" instead of a "stab a perp" end.

I don't think they would say no but it would be much more noticeable. In my work we use a pen a lot but never a flashlight. Plus it's got to fit in my Docker type pants or on my shirt so a flashlight might be a little large. Thank you for the idea...I'm always looking for options of protecting myself when I don't have my knife or gun!!!

Two recommendations I've got:
1. Look online at a certain tactical 5tore for concealed-carry docker-style dress pants. They make Khakis that have zippered pockets near the knee that are virtually invisible to the casual observer. You could always carry a flashlight in those.
2. Think about investing in a kubaton. Not one of the crazy kubatons that look lethal, but just a 6 or 7-inch long rod that you can use for joint manipulations. They aren't too difficult to use (with practice) and definitely add to your arsenal. They are also pretty much legal everywhere (if you get the simple ones that are just rods) because how can you outlaw a rod? You can also potentially get away with a small can of OC in your pocket, like an ASP Defender. Depending on your state, a very small ASP baton (they make concealable variants) can be an excellent supplementary weapon. Putting these tools in the pants I mentioned above would work just fine.
