So, I've heard all these good things about the Para2. I really want to get one, but...I haven't had the best results with S30V, and am leery to get another knife with that steel. I currently have four knives with it, and my results have been such:
Strider SnG--excellent, have used the knife extensively both light and heavy duty and have not needed to sharpen it yet
Benchmade 162--Average at best. Was my first knife in S30V, and my CS Recon 1 holds a better edge. Maybe I got a bad heat treat or something, or maybe because its such a thick piece of steel the edge geometry is just not good for getting that sharp edge, I don't know. Its good enough for camp purposes and it fits my hand great so I kept it.
ZT0350TS--Very very average. To the point where I've just stopped carrying the knife. Granted, it is a blem, but still I expected more. I haven't used it much since I bought it, and have only had to strop it, but it will be part of my upcoming knife purge.
Spyderco Nilakka--Gets incredibly sharp, but loses its edge very fast. I did find over the weekend a little note thingy in the box from Spyderco saying that it is not meant as a hard use knife, but opening mail dulls it. Still love the knife despite that, and hope that as it wears and I get into thicker steel, it will keep that edge longer.
I'm in a pickle about all this. Ah if only the para 2 was available in XHP. I'd snap it up immediately. What to do, what to do.
Your thoughts, recommendations, and insults are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
