Let me start by saying I'm not an expert by any means and probably never will be but I have a question to you that are. Why aren't more fixed blade/bush type knives made out of S30V or my favorite to date, BG42? Price? Hardness? What is it?
I'm talking blades in the 3.5" to 4" to 5" range.

More expensive, more difficult to heat treat, more difficult to grind. >>> higher knife price which many won't pay even though they are very fine blades especially wear resistance.

From that I take it that if I wanted the ultimate bushcraft knife and was willing to pay the price, I would commission one of the makers here to fashion me one out of, lets say...BG42?

RosArms has quite a bit of knives made from old soviet stainless ball bearing 110x18MSHD which is BG42 pumped up with Electro Slug Remelting and Vacuum Arc Remelting with price tag more suitable for AUS knives.

Thanks, Vassili.

And also, I'd read that Latrobe was/is not making BG-42 available in "knife friendly" sizes.
