First of all, I want to say I have 2 small sebenzas and like them ! They are both BG42 blades. I contacted CRK to replace one with S30V(supposedly much better). They are charging $105(plus shipping. Buck will replace my Buck 110 folder with a BG42 blade( over half an inch longer) for $30.00 plus shipping. Anybody comment on this? Again, I still love my sebenza and will stay with the BG42. Dannyv - I guess this has more to do with CRK vs Buck than S30V vs BG42 - maybe you should try to get a price on a BG42 blade from CRK too for a fair comparison - my gut feeling is that the BG42 blade will be roughly the same than the S30V blade.

CRK is a much smaller operation than Buck. The blade will have to be fitted to your knife and that has to be done by hand. They can't just put a S30V blade in your knife. Also the Buck is a lockback versus the framelock Sebenza. I'm not sure that the difference between BG-42 and S30V justifies the cost. If you really use your knives hard then the price might be worth it.

Thanks, guys ! I guess you're right. Still like you say, the cost might not be worth it for the kind of use I have for my knife (light use). The only difference I guess would be that the BG42 is harder to sharpen. Maybe I can trade one for an S30V blade later. Aprreciate your response. dannyv:D

I may be the only one around here but I actually prefer Sebenzas with BG42 blades over the newer S30V knives.

You are not the only one ! I have read of guys that prefer either blade or the BG42 which CRK no longer give. I actually just changed my mind about converting. Thanks, guys! danny

Plus you know that you can send in the knife to CRK and for I think 8 dollars they will "tune and sharpen" your knife. They do a very good job at that. BG-42 is a proven steel and S30V isn't. But I think that either steel is very good..

I have a perfectly good BG42 blade in my Sebenza. It works very well at cutting everything. It cuts as well as a Scott Cook Owyhee hunter in S30V I have so I'm not changing blades. ...besides if I get into changing blades everytime the next steel comes out, I'll go broke. That said, I don't have to worry when BG43 or S31V is announced as the next wonder steel!

Well said, Bruce! Exactly my sentiments. Thanks to you and to all who have replied to my query. I am sticking with my blade. dannyv:D
