Tell me about this knife. I've got the itch to buy a new EDC, but don't want to buy something that's basically the same as what I already carry (Kershaw OD-1 and CRKT Ripple). I'm looking at the Blur in S30V, hoping for better edge retention, mostly. Is it worth it? Is it much harder to sharpen?

Yes on both counts, takes longer to sharpen but holds an edge much much longer than sandvik imo. If ur looking for a tough knife, buy either s30 or cm154. Both very very tough and workerhorses

I just got one of these for Christmas. A couple of days after I got it, I noticed a tiny nick on the edge. I ran it over my Lansky turnbox a few times and it was gone. What I had heard previously about S30V had me believing that I would have to work on it for about a half hour before I even started to see a difference.

I absolutely love this knife and I can't recommend it highly enough. If you get one, take the torsion bar out. It's much better as a manual opener.

Hi guys, my first post. I have ordered the Blur s30v, but it is on backorder. Unfortunately, it has given me a chance to second guess myself.

I think, although I have changed my mind many times....is that I want a knife for hunting, hiking, camping and as a bonus maybe a weekend EDC. I realize this is a compromise.

Should I spend $40 more on a Spyderco Military or $50 more on a Paramilitary 2? So far, I have been trying to stick with s30v.

Oh, sorry...I saw this pop up on the main page, didn't mean to ask about Spyderco in the Kershaw section. On that note, I would also like to hear about everyone's thoughts on the s30v Blur. I never owned an assisted knife, but are their other Kershaw/ZT options in s30V that should be considered? The ZT350 seems like it may be just a tad too heavy. Also is it worth double the price?

First off welcome to Blade Forums, secondly Don't second guess yourself the Blur is an awesome knife I have used mine for quite a while even to the point of collecting a few,Imo the Sandvik is awesome Sweden has been at the forefront of making good steel for a long time(super clean steel)-also get the Parmilitary and the P2 . You can't go wrong with any of these choices. I really like the assisted opening feature on the Blur, I've needed to cut things and only have one free hand and the AO feature makes using the Blur real easy

The carbon fiber blur is IMO the best blur out there. 154cm is another good steel.

I would say that the S30V Blur is a much "beefier" knife than the PM2. The PM2 is more "elegant". I like them both, but if money is an issue, the Blur is a lot cheaper than the PM2.

OP, Kershawguy still has some s30v blems for sale for a good price. If you are looking for user that is a great choice, it's a fine knife and it does have better edge retention. The Blur is my second favorite Kershaw/ZT behind the ZT0550.

Yatesd, If you don't like the assist they can be de-assisted as well.

As a matter of fact, that was exactly what I was looking at. After reading the comments here, I went ahead and ordered it :)

So it came in the mail today, really fast shipping from Oregon to Michigan, especially considering the holiday. As many say, I'm not sure what the blemish is. Maybe the slightest waver in the grind at the tip of the blade, or maybe a small line, not even a scratch, in the handle next to the clip. The line may even have happened in my pocket, I stopped by home on my lunch break to get it, and pretty much immediately put it in my pocket. I probably wouldn't even think of the waver in the tip if it wasn't supposed to be a "blem."

Anyway, I really like it, it feels lots different for some reason than the serrated tanto I played with at the hardware store the other day. Maybe just because I don't personally care for tanto or serrated blades, and I had a hard time getting past that :) I really like the intermediate size of it, it's a little bigger than my other EDC's. I don't know that I could comfortably carry a much larger knife. I really like the blade shape and style, too. I think it will see a lot of pocket time for me.
Oh, and as for de-assisting it, I don't really see that happening. Maybe I'll get tired of the "whack" of the blade opening over time, but I doubt it :D I have found that I can slowly open it with two hands when I need to not attract attention. That or the knife opening on its own in my pocket are the main reasons I can think of for de-assisting it.

It's my constant "away from work" EDC. My only criticism of the Blur in general is that I wish it had a deeper carry pocket clip, but I have this wish of quite a few older Kershaw models.

The S30V Blur is an amazing knife that, so far, can handle anything I can throw at it. I'm planning to get a CF 154CM Blur in the next couple of weeks if I can still find one.
