My new S30V / G10 Kershaw Leek came yesterday. I am impressed. Nice tight lock-up. Not particulatrly sharp from the factory, but it didn't take much on the Sharpmaker to give it a hair splitting edge. Just thought I would take a few pics and share with you guys. This is the smooth G10 hadled version by the way. Not sure if the textured ones are available yet or not.

Where you suprized by the slickness of the handles? I didn't really know what polished G-10 meant. It's like glass. I don't much care for it. I'll probably sell it and get the grippy version when it releases. I love the knife otherwise.

Yeah, I was. I didn't think it was going to be "that" polished. It looks like buffed up black pastic to me. I don't care for it that much either. I am wishing I would have waited for the grippy G10 instead.

I must add however that it's just probably the fact that I've never seen polished G10 before. I've only seen and felt Grippy G10 and machined G10.

This is not a fault of Kershaw and the knife is still a kick butt knife. I just need to get used to it :)

Such is life...

I knew what I was getting, or at least I got exactly what I expected. I prefer the texured too, but the polished is kind of neat too. I have a Benchmade 210GG Activator, which also has polished G10 handles.

ginsun,
Cool, I too just got one of 210GG the limited edition Activators with the polished G-10 but I have to say with the finger rest, the slickness of the G-10 does not bother me at all. I am wearing mine as a neck knife and use it everyday to slice up shop towels....still sharp as the dickens too.

I don't know where they found that pattern of the G-10, but I love the way it looks.

I have to agree. I got a Consealex sheath for it (from forum member Normark by the way) and it is a nice neck knife. I actaully like the way the polished G10 feels on that one, and the grey / black color that it is looks awesome.

I like the look of the polished G-10 - looks real slick. Kershaw has always made great stuff.

Good read.. And great pics!! Thanks for the info about the scales .. I was wanting to get one but was wanting to stay away from the slippery handles.. That's why I sold my last leek.. It is a neat knife though.. So does anyone know if or when for sure they will release the grippy version of this .. and will it too have the s30v blade?

Thomas had said that the textured G10 versions would be shipped about a month or so after the polished ones if I remember right. That would be pretty soon.

And I don't know that I would say the polished ones are slippery exactly, not the way aluminum or stainless or even smooth FRN is. Its wierd, it actually seems to get a little grippier if your figures are a little wet. kind of like how you lick your fingers to turn the pages of a book. Its pretty neat stuff really.

ginshun - Thanks for the pics and thanks to those that posted about the polished G-10 handle. I was wanting one these but was waiting for the 'grippy' version. Now I'm glad I waited. Of course a little sand paper will rough it right up to whatever degree you want. ;)

Thanks again.. and also for the insight of the Polished G10.. I kinda figured it would be more grippy than the regular version of this knife.. but that info helps alot.... it also looks a bit more thicker in the handle than a stock one..

Ok all, the first 500 pieces of the textured G-10, S30V, stone washed finished Leeks will be shipping next Monday. Should be on the streets shortly there after.

Thanks Thomas for the update.

Now I'm going to have to spend about another $85 in a couple weeks. :D

Yeah, I'll just have to buy one also! I like the polished G10, the appearance reminds me of automotive carbon fiber:and I don't find it slippery. But how can I know which one I prefer without owning both? Is there a 12 step program for knife junkies??

Well, I bought one, (a chive) and it feels pretty good! Maybe I'll go out and find 11 more:D
