Both of these knives have been recommended to me by the gang here, but I just can't decided which one to get (I know, I know - get both). But seriously, help me out! Without considering price, which do you think is better and why? Which has the better steel/heat treat and why?

Thank you all in advance for your input!

I'll highly recommend both. I know, not much help, but you can't go wrong with either. Toss a coin.

I prefer the Vantage Pro. I like the combination of G10 and S30V steel and I like the ergos on the Buck better than the leek. Nothing against the leek it was just a little on the smallish side for me. Good luck choosing.

After carrying larger, clunkier folders for years, I decided to try the S30V Leek and have
been very impressed so far. The blade shape is a bit different, but it shines for more delicate tasks. I use the Izula for more brutish everyday jobs.

I love the leek as a knife, and i have had great experiences with kershaw's S60V steel, which i assume can not be very far off from S30V. it is a fun knife. you will love it. also, the customer service is the best in the buisness. just keep that in mind.

Okay, I am going to pretend not to be an idiot and assume that "wave" means to modify the thumb hole into an Emerson-type opener. If that's the case, I don't have any interest in doing this. While the technology is somewhat interesting, it seems that having a hook on the spine of the blade could lead to a snag and a bloody accident (if only in a remote case). I prefer my knives and tools to remain as safe as possible.

I have this l'il bad boy in S30V blade and framelock. It's unreal, I open it approx. 20 times a day for work (for over a year now) and it's still fast and rock solid. You can buy it online for $79 to $89 but kershawguy can get you one for a little over 1/2 that as a blem, which is what I have. I have never been able to find a blemish on it. I can't say enough about how much I like this kniife and how sharp it is and easy to keep sharp. - Kershaw Random Leek 1660TGRYST

Pretty good job of pretending not to be an idiot there.:D

yes you are right in your assumption and if you dont thats fine but it doesnt come to a sharp enough point to do any harm unless you make it that way, most of the time they end up pretty rounded and stubby

I'm glad you like my smart guy act, but I really am a novice here :) I figured he either meant what I assumed, or he meant I should get it and then wave it in somebody's face (also, not something I would like to try).

Oh, I meant that the opener could catch on something, open the blade, and then I would cut myself on the blade. Maybe that's not a real risk, but I can clearly picture it happening in my mind :p

The vantage seems better suited to heavier cutting because of the blade shape and fuller handle. The leek is great as a slim EDC for lighter work.

Personally I'd go with the leek because of the slimmer handle. I also like the smooth assist of the leek.

ah that makes a lot more sense lol

Vantage Pro all the way, in this comparo. I love both Kershaw and Buck, like brothers....
but the Buck is a better all around blade (compared to Leek) in my NTBH opinion. Now if it was up against the Kershaw Blur, I'd go with the Blur.

I'd go with the Vantage Pro. IMO, it's an all around better EDC knife. Great ergo's.

Ah ha! Yes, this is just the kind of input I was looking for. I have found nothing but good comments on the steel for both, but when it comes to a use scenario...

I am also eager to try out that torsion-bar thingee.
