Just got it. Amazing in its simplicity. I used to have one of the older ATS models with the diamond engraving. I loved it but this one seems to be improved. Most notable is the thicker G10 which seems to put it into a more competitive field. In its price range, I think it's the best production folder on the market. Perhaps it's superior even to production folders in the higher price bracket. I've had many models from different companies and although they are excellent, they lack a certain simplistic ingenuity inherent in all things sophisticated. Strange words for such a brute of a knife, but that's how I feel about the design and execution of this knife.

Militaries also have the best liner locks, even compared to custom folders. The locking bar never creeps over to the right side of the tang no matter how hard it's flicked open. And that satisfying click of the lock engaging. The recessed, serrated locking bar is beautiful. Great knife.

Kublai,
I'm new here, but not new to knives (or design), and I couldn't agree more. I've bought two of the new s30v millies (SE and PE) over the last month. All things considered, the simpler solution to a design problem is always the best.

Outstanding knife, I've owned just a few different ones in days gone by ;) and really like the no nonsense grip, texture of the G10 and the S30v after a little touching up on a set of Profiles, is nothing short of amazing! Right now it's the daily carry, without even a thought!

Very nice knife, I remember having a 440V model in a long time ago for a fitup and seem to have the memory that it seemed overall thinner and it didn't feel quite right, but that may be my memory playing tricks...

Gary,

I understand that the new, S30V Militaries are a bit thicker in the
G-10, or so I've heard.

Do you happen to know what the washers are made of? I want to get a military but I'm afraid of the blade play due to cheap washers.

Nothing looks cheap on this knife, as to the washers, from viewing at the various angles I don't really see washers at all, blade locks up quite secure! I'd recommend this knife without hesitation, as to previous renditions, I can't comment but whole heartily support the S30V bladed ones!

And thanks Jeff, I was hoping my mind wasn't playing tricks on me, it feels a tad thicker which helps.

A Dozier comes to mind.

Have any of you guys put the S30V through it's paces? Comments on edge holding, resistance to rolling, toughness?

edge holding, resistance to rolling, toughness
I have put it through the mill.I carried it for over a month and then I only had to hit it on a crock stick to bring the edge back.I finnally dulled it enough to sharpen it after cutting some burber carpet. It was much easier to sharpen than 440V and took a better edge.On my 440V I had to lightly sharpen it on my 204 every week sometimes it would go 2 weeks.

Thanx Kublai, and to the rest as well for the input and kind words.

Hey TKD. Those sophisticated .003 thick washers are anything but cheap. They also reduce the possibility of blade play because they're so thin. In addition, the pivot is adjustable.

I have looked at the Military for a long time, finally when they came out with an S30V model I went for it. I was not sure a 4" blade was going to suit me, it's a big knife. I found the thin handle to be a big plus, it can be carred with out it being bulky. This knife grows on you. I have come to like a lot more than when I first got it, because it's so well fitted and so simple. Not everything in life is that way.
Thanks Spyderco!

Still lovin' the Military, which for me this is a long time! ;)
Only one slight thing to be careful of, the clip on these have slightly sharp edges, noticed my steering wheel on my car had some abrasion along the outer edge, wondered what that was from and when I got out of the car tonight, I felt the knife scraping against the steering wheel, not a big problem, I'll just file down and polish the edges of the clip and that'll fix it but those that don't know to watch out should be warned, maybe a different clip might be in order, but the knife itself, wow, just great! what a cutter she be, that blade, while obviously not a wharncliff, the point is quite low and you can easily choke up and work with the very tip easily, extremely nice!

Again, Sal, outstanding, glad to have gotten one finally!

Gary, the first thing I do with all my EDC Spydercos is to take off the clip and use a dremel to round off the edges of the clip.I have done this every sence my son gave me a hung and slid down my side and got a 10 in long sratch from a small burr I had not noticed. The scrach wasn't enough to bring bllod just a one of those red scatches that sting.
