S30V Native - lock problem?

Q to Sal:

Recently I bought a S30V Native (at Maestralprom in Zagreb). I am really excited about it - so much that I take Native as an EDC carry more than my Wegner Jr. However, I found that it does not CLOSE smoothly - it does not jump as, e.g. Delica, and the last 1-2 mm (sometimes) I close by hand. It closes, of course, somewhat better when I put a few drops of Balistol, but still, I am confused. Sal said somewhere that the lock at the new S30V Native is reengineered, and is now better then ever. Might be that it is compromise for additional smoothness in opening?
Still, the 440V Native I bought to my son, has better closing then the new S30V. What bothers me in addition is, that I found some threads where similar observations are made, cf.

"Concern about my S30V Native...." by KBR at this Forum.
And, Sal answered there
"Hi KBR. Thanx for the heads up. We'll look into that".

Any news about it, any answers?

Franco

P. S. The jumping (snap shut) of the simple Victorinox blade when closing makes me even more frustated.

My Native is the same way as yours I think. Yet I don't see a problem. It gives really smooth opening this way, and If it doesn't jump closed like my Delica, so what? It holds closed tightly once closed, and that is all that matters right? Now if yours does not hold closed...well then that would be a problem.

As to Victorinox blades snapping shut...how can you compare the two? Victorinox makes slipjoints, which always snap shut because of the backspring.

The 440V ones are like that too. Some just have a little stronger springs than others.

Hi Franco. Sorry for your problem. The only real solution is to send it back to us. We changed the spring tension on the Current Native. It sems that a few of them were not properly self closing.

I know it is difficult to get the knife back to us because of your location. If you can get it back to me, I'' fix it and send it back to you with something to compenstate for your location.

Thanks Sal,

I am sorry for the delay in thanking, but I spent some time (officially) in Barcelona - so here I am.

It seems that sending the Native to States could be rather expensive if one use a fast mail. I am still investigating. If the cost were more than 50 % of the price, I better buy a new one.

Still, I consider an another option - since it may be of some interest for other people - I'll put it in a new thread.

Thanks,

Franco

Hey Franco. You might be able to work with our distributor in Croatia, as far as a switch goes.
