Looking for my first Manix 2 and can't decide on which steel for the blade - S30V or BD1. I have several s30v blades and like the steel well enough. Not at all familiar will the BD1. Knife will not be used in a high humidity or salt water environment. Mainly an edc knife.
What are your thoughts?

S30V will be a better overall steel and will hold an edge longer than BD1. If you want a lightweight Manix check out the model with S110V steel.

If I remember correctly, BD1 is Carpenter's update on Gin-1. I'd expect it to take a basic edge easily, and to lose it pretty much the same way. The S30V should have better edge retention.

I have a manix 2 in bd1 and S30v

As others have said, S30V will hold an edge a lot longer, but it chips easier. BD1 is kind of like AUS-8, but seems to be a bit better at keeping an edge. Easy to make wicked sharp, doesn't hold edge as long as S30V, but is brought back to "sharp" quickly on a strop.

It depends on what you want. Longer edge holding --> S30V. If you like AUS-8, BD1.

S30V leaves it in the dust in terms of edge retention

BD-1 will as a result take an edge a hell of a lot quicker
