I bought a Doug Ritter Knife (Benchmade) and have noticed some chipping on the blade edge...is this normal? I have read in a few forums of some other folks saying the same thing. Is this common for S30V or is this just a problem that Benchmade is having with their quality control?

This is my first post...thanks for the help in advance.

It depends on what you were cutting and how? More information is needed.

What about reading here?

I don't know if it is a widespread problem but I have not been able to use the search function for a long time. If members can't search then the same questions are going to be posted over and over again.

Cliff is correct - it does depend on what you were cutting and how. My guess is you were not abusing the knife so if that is the case the blade should not be chipping.

I would recommend you contact the manufacturer of the knife. They probably would like to inspect the blade and make things right if it is a blade or steel related problem.

If you need help contacting the manufacturer - I might be able to assist you.

Mathman:

Please contact us about returning the knife and we will send you out a replacement. The toll free number is 888 362 7123. Please do not sharpen the knife. We will want to see the problem and possibly have a lab analyze it.

Sorry about the problem and we appreciate you cooperation.

Just a note, its been said before but bares repeating, it is very good to see those behind the products being very aggressive in seaking out and dealing with problems.
